Liza May Minnelli was born in Los Angeles on March 12, 1946. Liza is an Academy Award and Tony Award winner, and is recognized as one of the best actresses and singers today. Liza's parents are Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli, both of whom have been in the entertainment industry.
Biography:
Minnelli belongs to a renowned artistic family. Her mother's lineage has a history of entertainers, and encompasses six generations. Her well-known mother, Judy Garland, has made her mark in films and in music. Minnelli Her aunts had sung together in the group, The Gumm Sisters, with her mother. Millenni' father also belongs to a theatrical family, and they even had circus performers in their lineage. Minnelli made her first film appearance when she was just three. This was in the final scene of the 1949 musical 'In the Good Old Summertime'. Although Minnelli and her mother were close, there were some competitive feelings between them. Minnelli highlighted a time when she was on stage: I was onstage with my mother, but suddenly, she wasn't Mamma ... she was Judy Garland.
Public life:
Liza has long struggled with drug addiction, and she has been compared to her mother because of this. Minnelli has been in and out of rehab facilities for her addiction. It has been reported she nearly died from a round encephalitis in 2000 following one rehab visit. Many were not convinced about this, as this is a disease known to be caused by mosquito or tick bites. Liza also entered rehab prior to her marriage to Gest. She visited a rehab once more at their first anniversary. Recently, she has visited a rehab and sought psychiatric help to handle her issues from her divorce from Gest.

Theatre
Minnelli began performing at 17 years of age [1963] at an Off-Broadway revival of the Best Foot Forward. This was a musical, and it brought her much recognition, as well as her first award [The Theatre World Award]. The following year, her mother called Minnelli to perform alongside her at the London Palladium. The audience was taken up with her, and this was the launch pad for her future concert career. At 19, she returned to Broadway, and secured a 1965 Tony Award for Flora the Red Menace.

Liza's first film role was in Albert Finney's, Charlie Bubbles [1967].In 1969, Liza appeared in Alan J. Pakula's, The Sterile Cuckoo. She played Pookie Adams. This performance won Liza a first Academy Award nomination. She played a similar role in Tell Me That You Love Me.

For Cabaret and A Time to Live [1985], Liza won Golden Globe Awards. Liza has also won 3 Tony Awards. Minnelli has an Oscar and an Emmy, to her credit too. She is known as the only winner of an Academy award whose parents have won it too.
