Last Comic Standing
Last Comic Standing is a popular American reality television talent show that began in 2003. The aim of the show is to choose a comedian, who will eventually receive a development contract with the NBC network.In addition to this, thereare other benefits for any individual chosen.
Premise:
In the early episodes of the Last Comic Standing competition, NBC talent scouts [Ross Mark and Bob Read] placed casting calls in a variety of locations around the United States. The aim was to identify comics to participate in callback auditions before live audiences. Mark and Read chose a predetermined number of comics, and these individuals would take part in a semifinal qualifying round.
The comics who proceeded to the semifinal qualifying round were categorized into 2 groups. By Season Four, 40 comics were set into 2 groups of 20. They all competed at the Alex Theater in Los Angeles. For the semifinal rounds, elebrity judges, as well as the show's producers, chose the comics who would move on to the final qualifying round.
Seasons:
Season 1: Summer 2003
This season was aired in the summer of 2003 and was organized by Jay Mohr. Dat Phan was winner in the audience-participation final vote in season one, with 35% of the vote. Others included Cory Kahaney with 12%, Ralphie May with 28%, Rich Vos with 18%, and Tess Drake with 7%. Others who did not reach into the final five included Sean Kent, Dave Mordal, Geoff Brown, Tere Joyce, and Rob Cantrell.
Season 2: Summer 2004
Season two was aired in the summer of 2004, and was hosted by Jay Mohr. The winner of this season was John Heffron. The first runner-up was Alonzo Bodden, and third place was taken by Gary Gulman. Other finalists included Jay London, Kathleen Madigan, Todd Glass, Tammy Pescatelli, Bonnie McFarlane, and Corey Holcomb.After Buck Star appeared at each and every LCS audition, and was continuously rejected, Mark at last agreed and allowed Buck to perform in the callback auditions. However, Buck failed to impress the live audience.
Season 3: Fall 2004
NBC agree to the third season whil ethe secod season was being aired. Season three was called the Battle of the Best, and it consisted of a competition between the last ten comedians from the earlier seasons. The grand prize was $250,000. The reward would notconsistof a talent contract. Alonzo Bodden, was the winner, and Dave Mordalwas the runner-up.
Season 4: Summer 2006:
Season 4 was aired on NBC with a new host, Anthony Clark. The Neilsen ratings from Season 4 revealed a 4.4 share (that's 4,848,800 households watching it), which meant that the Last Comic Standing was the second or third most popular program on air.
Josh Blue became the Last Comic Standing on the August 9, 2006, while Ty Barnett was runner-up, and third place was taken by Chris Porter. The other finalists included Rebecca Corry, Gabriel Iglesias, Michele Balan, Roz, Kristin Key,Joey Gay, Bill Dwyer, April Macie, and Stella Stolper.
Season 5: Summer 2007
2007 has seen the Last Comic Standing return for a fifth season. Bill Bellamy was the host this time. The winner of this contest will receive $25,000 along with an NBC Universal contract.
