The founder of the festival, Slipknot is a legendary metal band that has been active since 1995. It debuted in 1999 with the release of their self-titled album which is responsible for their first breakthrough. Before releasing its second album "Iowa," the band went on the Iowa World tour which earned them a huge fan following.  The album came out in 2001. Three of the singles from the album were featured in Resident Evil. The band is well known for the attention grabbing masks and uniform that's worn by its members during their live performances. Slipknot has so far released four studio albums and has won seven Grammy Awards.

2014 Knotfest will take place at San Manuel Amphitheatre, the largest outdoor music venue in the US with a capacity to hold around 65,000 people. The venue hosts exciting events throughout the year. The 2012 lineup included Slipknot, Lamb of God, Deftones, Cannibal Corpse, The Urge, Machine Head, Serj Tankian, Prong, Gojira, Dirtfedd and The Urge. The 2014 Knotfest in California was announced at the first day of Rockstar Energy Drink mayhem Festival. The complete lineup of the event includes some top-billed bands like Anthrax, Five Finger Death Punch, Danzing, Volbeat, Whitechapel and many more. Last two days of the festival will be headlined by Slipknot itself.

The band has also announced to take the festival to Japan in November 2014. The Knotfest Japan will consist of two days and will be held in Tokyo. Among the reveled acts joining Slipknot in Japan are Papa Roach, Bring Me the Horizon, Trivium, Lamb of God, Korn, maximum the Hormone, Crossfaith, Limp Bizkit and many more.
