Juan Gabriel was born on 7^th January, 1950 in a small town in Michoacán.. At a boarding school where Gabriel was sent to study, he was taken under the guidance of Juan Contreras, a teacher who went on to become one of the most cardinal influences and mentors in Gabriel's life. Contreras taught Gabriel a number of skills, among which was playing the guitar. Honing his natural talent and teaching him various other musical instruments, little did Contreras know that he was training someone who would go on to be one of Mexico's most iconic singing sensations. Soon, Contreras' efforts paid off as Gabriel wrote his first song at the age of thirteen. 

While Gabriel kept on writing and composing, he did not find a break, until RCA Records signed him on for a recording contract in 1971. He has written over one thousand songs, and has sold over a hundred million albums worldwide.
