Jerry Blavat is an American DJ who is commonly known as 'The Geator With Heator'. Blavat is famous for promoting old music in Philadelphia and its surroundings through radio. He started his career in fifties and has been entertaining his fans for more than fifty years through different mediums. Blavat was widely popular among the teenagers during the sixties and his viewership is tremendous even today. Jerry Blavat started his career with dancing at an early age of thirteen on the 'Original Bandstand'. Only two years later, Jerry became the road manager of a popular Doo Wop group of that time, named as 'Danny and the Juniors'. Born and raised in South Philadelphia, this young and talented boy became a great performer, producer and DJ on television and radio within a short span of time. After gaining countrywide recognition, Jerry started his own talk show on WCAM radio in Jew Jersey in 1960. This new show was named as Jerry Blavat Show which was broadcasted live from South Philly. He began entertaining the listeners, his show airing at night and became a legend of radio. By mid sixties, his viewership increased further and the monthly audience included almost half a million teenagers. Jerry would record the programs in his own garage studio which were later played on air when he would make a personal appearance.
Jerry Blavat was exposed to a larger audience via TV through the show 'The Discophonic Scene' which was hosted and produced by the artist himself. The show received excellent reviews and was aired on multiple TV channels in forty markets. The star of WCAU-FM (the oldies station) could be caught on air on Sunday nights. He would play some of the most melodious numbers from fifties, sixties and seventies era. Sometimes he simply jumped to the forties music, making the music lovers happy. He also became associated with other channels like WFIL as a regular host. He rocked the radio channels throughout the seventies and eighties and finally purchased the 'Philly Gold Radio' which was then re-named as Geator Gold Radio. As of today, Jerry Blavat has been seen on several TV channels in different shows. These days, he is working for Doo Wop specials.
Jerry Blavat has regularly been featured on the live shows including 'The Mod Squad', 'The Mike Douglas Show', 'The Joey Bishop Show' and 'The Monkees'. He has also appeared in a number of movies including 'Cookie', 'Baby, It's You' and 'Desperately Seeking Susan'. In 1998, he was honored with 'Rock & Roll Hall of Fame' induction followed by 'Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia's Hall of Fame'. Blavat has made his own studio from where his live shows are broadcasted. He also runs a nightclub named as 'Memories in Margate' since last thirty years and works at other nightclubs as well.
