Formed by Ian Vanek and Matt Reilly, Japanther is a band formed by these two students as an art project when they were studying in the Pratt Institute; a private art institution in the city of Brooklyn. The Pratt institute is one of the leading private art institutions in the US producing great graduates every year. The band, Japanther was formed in the year 2001 and was able to perform at two major exhibitions called "Whitney Biennial" that took place in NY City and "Venice Biennial" that took place in the beautiful city of Venice, in the years 2006 and 2011 respectively. The band has been able to work in collaboration with numerous artists such as Anita Sparrow, Dan Graham, Penny Rimbaud, Spank Rock, Todd James and Gee Vaucher.
