Alt. Rock band, Jacks Mannequin was formed in Orange County, CA in 2004 by the lead vocalist and pianist of the band, Andrew McMahon. Initially McMahon was a member of another band named Something Corporate, and played lead vocals and piano there too. The idea of starting out a separate band came to McMahon in 2000 after he recorded a song titled Locked Doors. As per his conception, he thought that this song was way too different as compared to the previous work done by the band Something Corporate. Hence he decided that he wouldn't be releasing the song in any album by Something Corporate. At that time that idea just remained an idea; however the idea of a separate band started materializing in 2004, as all the band members of Something Corporate decided to put the band on Hiatus after extensive touring. During that tenure, another band member of Something Corporate, Josh Partington, kicked off his side project named Firescape. Doing so, that gave McMahon green light to kick start his own side project that he had been longing for almost past 4 years. Hence McMahon started writing his own songs. After the writing process was done and dealt with, McMahon took the money out of his own pocket and paid in for the production of the Jack's Mannequin's debut album titled Everything in Transit that was released in August of 2005 after the band signed a record deal with Maverick Records. Following the release of the album, the band also scheduled a tour in support of the album, which later on was cancelled due to McMahon's bone marrow transplant, as he was diagnosed with leukemia. The album generally received positive reviews from fans and critics alike, and debuted at # 37 spot at the Billboard 200 and sold about 22, 163 units in the first week of sales. After McMahon's recovery from leukemia, the album was re-released on October 17, 2006 and also featured some bonus content.
Jack's Mannequin released its second album, The Glass Passenger, on September 30, 2008 on Sire Records. It was also the first album by the band that was released on Sire Records. The Resolution was album's first single that was also released by Sire Records as Sire released band's The Ghost Overground E.P on August 5, 2008. The album on the whole debuted at the # 8 spot on Billboard 200 and sold more than 49,000 copies.
After McMahon's diagnoses of Leukemia the band cancelled all the tours and stopped writing as well. However as soon as McMahon recovered, the band went on tours in support of their debut album, and remained touring for two years. The band started recording once again in 2007 as McMahon started writing new songs for the band by the summers of 2007. Initially the release date of the album was scheduled to be April 22, 2008 but then it was moved to June 03. However the album was ultimately released later on September 30 that year. During the months of August and September of the same year, the band went on tour along with Paramore. Prior to the release of The Glass Passenger, Jack's Mannequin premiered their two new songs from their new album during their live performance at the Rampo College in New Jersey, as they performed Suicide Blonde and Caves during their college shows in January and February 2008. Two other tracks of the album titled "Spinning" and "Crashin" featured guest appearance by Stacy Clark.
Band's second E.P was released on September 9 exclusively on iTunes and it was entitled In Valleys. The E.P included "Swim", "Cell Phone", "In Slow Motion" and "At Full Speed". In Valleys was followed by band's 3rd E.P titled The Resolution E.P, which was released on September 23 exclusively on Rhapsody and Verizon. Tracks included in the E.P were "At Full Speed", "Resolution" along with an acoustic version of Resolution.
In support of their new album, Jack's Mannequin would be kick starting their tour on April 22, 2009 at Irving Plaza in New York City, NY, while it is scheduled to end on August 7, 2009 at the INB Performing Arts Center in Spokane, WA.
