It is not very common that a rock band outside the America gain huge success and critical acclaim. But INXS has broken that myth with heir great and super successful music.
INXS is a popular band Australian rock and New Wave band that has been ruling the rock world for the last thirty years. They have been a guiding force in Australian music scene and have seen success out of their homeland as well.
INXS was formed on 16 August 1977, in Sydney, Australia under the name The Farriss Brothers that included Michael Hutchence, Andrew Farriss, Garry Gary Beers, Tim Farriss, Kirk Pengilly, and Jon Farriss.
The name was changed to INXS prior to the release of their self-titled debut album in 1980. The band hit it hard with their very first venture and the track Just Keep Walking, became their first Australian hit single. This was followed by 1981's Underneath the Colours that also became a hit in Australia.
Shabooh Shoobah was their first internationally successful album. Released in 1982, the album reached on number 52 on the Billboard 200 and number 46 on the Hot Pop Albums chart. The hit single The One Thing was among the first Top-30 hits in United States and a Top-20 hit in Canada.
Songs from this album were featured in the 1984 film Reckless. In 1984, INXS came up with their fourth album, The Swing. Produced by Nick Launay, the album earned them more significant attention from around the world. The track Original Sin became their first #1 single and remained a highly popular song worldwide with fans and reviewers for years and years to come.
The 1985's breakthrough album Listen Like Thieves was highly approved of by fans and critics. In this album, the band perfected a matured sound and singles like This Time and What You Need brought the INXS their first breakout U.S. success.
However, the band's worldwide peak of popularity came with 1987's Kick. This was an upbeat album that yielded four Top-10 US singles New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, Devil Inside and Need You Tonight. They toured heavily behind the album throughout 1987 and 1988 and truly proved international stars.
Some of the INXS next ventures include MAX Q Max Q, the follow up X, Welcome to Wherever You Are and Full Moon, Dirty Hearts that further established the fan base for the band. Throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s, INXS remained a major force in Australian popular music.
The band has worked remained inactive for some time and stroked again with Elegantly Wasted. The album was released in 1997and fared respectably in Australia, Canada, France, Great Britain, Sweden and Switzerland.
INXS has many memorable live performances to their credit as well. This includes mind blowing performances in US Festival in 1983 and Oz for Africa concert in 1985 that was broadcast in Australia and on MTV in the US. Their 1987 act at the Australia Made series of concerts is also something that has been talked about for so long.
Australia Made was the largest touring festival of Australian music talent that had ever been attempted to that point. INXS and Barnes headlined the concerts and they entertained the audiences fully.
INXS has also performed at Wembley Stadium in during their Summer XS tour where they performed in front of 72,000 fans. With all this and much more, the band has created mass hysteria wherever they performed.
