Hawkwind was formed back in the year 1969 and initially comprised of four people who shared a mutual interest in playing electronic music. The band hails from Ladbroke Grove in London, England. They have also ventured successfully into protopunk music.

The band has also performed alongside many different bands during their history and has had the honor of being associated with bands like Motorhead and Inner City Unit. The group currently comprises of six members which include the founding member Dave Brock. He is the band's lead vocalist and is also known for his exquisite guitar and keyboard playing skills with which he has enriched many of the band's songs. Up next is Tim Blake who had worked in brief spells with the band during his past and has been with them currently since 2007. He is the group's keyboard player and he also plays the theremin. The drummer goes by the name of Richard Chadwick and he has been with the band since 1988. He too is exceptionally talented and also provides back-up vocals in many of the band's songs. Then there is Mr Dibs who plays the cello and the bass guitar. He also provides back-up vocals. Niall Hone is the band's bass guitarist. He also plays the keyboard and provides back-up vocals in many of the band's songs. Last but surely not the least, the band includes Dead Fred who is an expert keyboard player and he is also an amazing violinist. Fred also provides back-up vocals like many of his band members. The group, with such an array of talented artists has gone from strength to strength over the years and they are not showing any signs of stopping anytime soon.
