The band made its first professional appearance in the Mayfest Arts Festival in 1992. Hanson continued performing in several other festivals until they released their debut album under the label of Mercury Records with the name Middle of Nowhere. The song which became the symbol of the band's popularity was from the same album which bared the title 'MMMBop' and topped the music charts in 1997. Mercury Records gave a boost to the band's career. The album sold more than 10 million copies. 2001 was the year when the band discontinued working under major labels and started off with their independent career. They came up with new form of music and everybody hesitated from the experimentation. This is when Hanson started recording for their own personal label 3CG Records.

The album reached the 2nd number on the Indie charts, number 16 on digital chart and 30^th number on Billboard 200 charts. The concert following the album release upraised a chaos; the venue could only accommodate 10,000 people whereas it witnessed strength of 20,000.

 
Up till now the band, Hanson has produced 8 studio albums, 3 extended plays, 16 singles and 4 music videos. Hanson achieved success in the United Kingdom with a total of 8 Top 40 singles.
The band had its name in the nominees for 1998 Grammy Awards including the Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

 
A few books are also associated with the band. There were a number of illicit publications related to the lives of each of the band member. They asked one of the closest friends Jarrod Gollihare to write a book comprising their biography with the title Hanson: The Official Book. It was enlisted amongst the best sellers. Another book Hanson released is the 113 Painting Book which has their self created paintings. They included it in the platinum package for their Shout it Out record. One of the books associated with the band is about their charity tour 'Walk Around The World'.
 
Hanson has been on extensive tours for promoting their music but the one carried out for charity is remarkable. The tour for charity named as The Walk Tour started in September 2007. During this tour they had a great campaign running against poverty and AIDS. To spread awareness amongst their fans about their campaign they conducted a 1 mile walk bare-foot before their shows to make people realize about the poverty prevailing in the world.
