His songs and albums have been released by labels such as Del Records and he is often known by the nickname "The Son of Sinaloa".
Ortiz rose to fame in 2010 when he sang in the FAMA Code competition. By 2011 he had earned a Grammy Award nomination for his first album. In 2013, Ortiz went on to receive four Billboard Mexican Music Awards, winning for Male Artist of the Year, Northern Disc of the Year, Northern Artist of the Year and Artist of the Year in Themes.
Ortiz has gained a huge fan following on the internet as well. On YouTube, one of his songs alone has garnered forty million plus views. The Grammy Award nominated artist has been described by many as charismatic, talented and original. Gerardo Ortiz's songs have also gained fame for their mystery, something that keeps on drawing hordes of fans to his concerts. He is considered a huge star amongst fans of Mexican regional music and his songs are often innovative, modern and filled with heart wrenching lyrics.
Though born in Pasadena, California, Ortiz's family moved to Culiacan, Sinaloa when he was just five years old. He grew up in a family of musicians and by the age of eight, had recorded his first album, which was made up of romantic and corridos songs. His second studio album was released when he was ten years old. By the time he released his third album, he was a member of The Pasadita, a band, and at just twelve years, he had become a national sensation.
Ortiz began playing live concerts, often opening up for bigger acts. He went on to compete in Fame Code, a TV reality singing competition. Fast forward to 2010 and the young Ortiz became a renowned international singer. His first major label album debuted at number one not only on the Billboard charts, but on the iTunes chart as well, where it stayed for nine months. It was then certified gold.
Ortiz will be joined on stage by Julion Alvarez. Alvarez was born in the Mexican state of Chiapas and began singing while in school. His first gig was at the school festival and he would go on to compete in singing competitions in high school, winning a good number of them.
Alvarez's early career was challenging. His family moved to a different city and he had to work cleaning windows and polishing floors. But his luck changed when he met Poncho Lizarraga, who asked him to sing with Alberto Lizarraga, his nephew. This led to him joining the latter's band. By 2010, his concerts started drawing thousands of fans and his songs started topping the charts.
Alvarez is ranked as one of the most popular artists in his native Mexico. His songs have topped the Billboard charts and earned him the Lo Nuestro Awards for the Male Mexican Regional Artist of the Year and Artist of the Year awards. You can catch him live with Gerardo Julion tickets.
