French And Saunders
French & Saunders is a name of a very popular sketch comedy television show of Britain, which is written and also performed by Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, having the nominations for BAFTA and Emmy Awards, also won by the later.
The show provides a chance for the performers to display their talents in double acts. The show had seen a great popularity the late 1980s and the early 1990s. It is also said that the show is considered to be one of the highly budgeted ones on in the history of BBC.
The show is placed in the category of presenting comedy and a satire on pop culture, movies, celebrities and the variety of art forms. Saunders has an honor of winning a BAFTA, an Emmy Award.
She has also got a great acclaim on worldwide level for writing and playing the lead role of Edina Monsoon in Absolutely Fabulous, which had proved a way to the roles in the American sitcoms Roseanne and Friends. She has also won the American People's Choice Award on the fabulous voice over of the wicked Fairy Godmother in the animated film Shrek 2.
The resultant of all the factors adds to the glory of her, and she has also written and starred in two of the other BBC sitcoms, Jam and Jerusalem and The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle.
French has also been on the path of commercial success by having been starred in a very popular sitcom The Vicar of Dibley. The show has been highly acknowledged by the critics and there are many holiday specials.
The other works include her own show Murder Most Horrid, written by herself. She had done a voiceover of Mrs. Beaver in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
She has also been starred in the famous shows like Jam and Jerusalem, which is written by her friend and partner Saunders. She has seen a great level of success by appearing in the show called Terry's Chocolate Orange.
The pair had been awarded a place amongst the top 50 comedy acts ever in the year of 2005. The show had been aired for the last time as Christmas Celebrity Special, of the year of 2005.
Later in the year of 2006, both Saunders and French had made an announcement that the French & Saunders show was over, and they had moved towards other goals in the professional lives. They had their last ever concert duo act, named Still Alive Tour in the year of 2008.
It is important to mention that both French and Saunders had always tried to present ideas, which were acceptable to the general public, and they had always tried to convey some of the important messages through their shows.
They had tried hard to let their viewer feel that they are doing a parody and not a personal comment on any celebrity or character.
