Formed in the Bay Area of California, The Grateful Dead are often referred to as America's favourite rock band. People who have attended their shows say that they have never performed the same show twice and their uniqueness is what makes them different from other rock bands in America. The band was formed in 1965 and the founding members of the band were Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron McKernan, Phil Lesh, and Bill Kreutzmann. With the passage of time, other members joined the group and a few founding members left but it did not affect their quality of music, or their fan base around the world.
Over the years The Grateful Dead achieved fame with thirteen studio albums, six compilation albums; over 10 video albums and a large number of singles. Some of their songs and albums broke records on charts and were certified as gold or platinum records. A few of the most recognized and loved songs of The Grateful Dead are "Uncle John's Band," "Truckin," "One More Saturday Night," "Sugar Magnolia," "Dark Star," "Dancin' in the Streets," "Good Lovin'," "Shakedown Street," "Hell in a Bucket," "Throwing Stones," "Touch of Grey," and "Foolish Heart."
In 1995, after the tragic death of Jerry Garcia, the band broke up. However, on the request of their fans the group decided to reunite and go on tour for one last time. All the original founding members will be performing in front of a live audience and will be bidding farewell to their fans. These shows are part of their "Fare Thee Well" tour.
After playing thousands of shows over the course of their careers they are finally ready to say goodbye and will be playing their last three shows. The band has put up some of the greatest and most unforgettable rock shows in history and fans can not contain their excitement at the thought of their favourite band coming together once again. As a consequence, Fare Thee Well tickets are selling out fast.
Even though The Grateful Dead had massive commercial success, it was truly their live shows that brought them the most praise and that earned them such a high fan following. Over the course of their career the band has played over two thousand live shows.
