Ellie Goulding was born in a village next to Kington. At the age of nine, Goulding started playing clarinet, making it her first step in the vast field of music. In her early teens, she was already playing guitar and by the time she was in high school she had won a major role in Wizard of Oz school production. When she was fifteen, she started writing lyrics as well and the same year she won a local singing contest. While she was studying at the University of Kent she started to fall in love with electronic music.
