Born in 1961, Daniel Francis Noel O'Donnell is a television presenter, philanthropist and a popular singer. Hailing from Kincasslagh, Ireland, Donnell grew up in the County Donegal region. His Roman Catholic family encouraged him to sing in choirs during school. By the time he finished high school, the young artist decided to move to Galway to enroll into a business school. It was during this time that he became part of his sister's band named "Margo". Margo had already earned massive fame in its hometown and allowed the new entrant to build a name.

However, even with this move, Donnell wasn't able to earn the success he was aiming for and wanted to perform as a soloist. It was in 1983 that he decided to create a demo tape. The first song that he recorded was a cover of "My Donegal Shore" by Johnny McCauley. Paying for the finances himself, Donnell distributed the demo amongst the public for free.

In the same year he was seen creating his own band named "Country Fever". However, this group was short-lived and another group formed out of the band. This new ensemble was called "The Grassroots". Performing in local clubs, one of their performances was seen by Ritz label manager, Mick Clerkin. Clerkin then introduced Donnell to a friend, Sean Reilly, who decided to manage "The Grassroots".

Under his management, the band was able to perform all across Europe in the nineties. The schedule was so hectic that the band members took three months off from exhaustion. This was the time when Daniel O'Donnell gained massive popularity. He started appearing regularly on television shows all across Great Britain and Ireland. During this time he was awarded the Donegal Person of the Year title and was the recipient of the Irish Entertainer of the Year awards for the years, 1989, 1992 and 1996.

To date Donnell has released forty five studio albums, out of which forty have been able to make their way to the UK Top 40 Albums Chart. Furthermore, eighteen singles have made it to the UK Top 20 Singles Chart. He has also established the record of releasing an album that has maintained its spot on the UK Albums Chart for twenty four weeks. For his contributions, Donnell received an honorary degree from MBE in 1989.

Apart from making critically acclaimed music, the Irish singer is also an active philanthropist. He has founded the Romanian Challenge Appeal that is a charity that helps re-establish the lives of orphaned Romanian children. His music has won the talented vocalist numerous awards including six RTE Guide awards, three IRMA awards, four British Country Music Awards and two CMRU awards. He has also received Lifetime Achievement Awards from institutions such as The Irish Post and Sunday World.
