We know him as an amazing comedian, superb actor, distinguish playwright, successful producer, great screenwriter, a well known TV series creator, and what?s not. This one person has made his mark in almost every field of entertainment. Let us throw some light on the great life of this great artist.
Born as Christopher T. Titus in Worcester, Massachusetts and brought up in Newark, California, this ever smiling man had been through tough times in his childhood. His parents got divorced when he was a small child and he became the subject of a custody battle between his father and mother.
Initially lived with his father in Northern California, he ran away to Los Angeles at the age of twelve to live with his mother only to return back to his father again. This dysfunctional family life led him to heavy drinking in his teenage years. Adding this was a few scrapes with the law, including stealing a postal box and driving with a suspended license.
However, Titus gave up drinking at the age of seventeen after an accident in which he fell into a bonfire and burned the skin off his hands. Even his married life did not bring any luck for him as his marriage with Erin Carden was ended in 2006. Had it been someone else with such ill luck in family life, the person may have been lost in the dark; but Chris Titus is a different story altogether who knows well how to convert his weakness into strength.
This lanky blond comic actor has been doing stand-up since he was eighteen. His initial run as a comedian started around 1985 when he began performing at open mike comedy clubs in San Francisco. His comic timings got clicked away with the audience and he saw success as a stand-up comedian.
His popularity soon rose further when he started some large scale performances. Chris further proved his mettle in 1988 by making an acting debut in Killer Klowns From Outer Space that was followed by a TV acting debut in an episode of Fox's 21 Jump Street in 1989 along with an appearance in TV-movie Grand Deceptions, an episode of Columbo.
While Chris had reached wider audience with his TV and film assignments, he continued to hone his skills as a live performer as well. He continued to rock the nation with his standup act and began the fashion of one-person stage show with his super hit comedy Norman Rockwell Is Bleeding.
What made him different from others was his ability to create humor by telling personal stories in his acts. He found humor in oddball situations like his parents' divorce, his mother's emotional instability and his father's drinking. This actually connected him more with the audience and they related with him in a big way.
Meanwhile, Chris continued other career interests including a direct-to-video release Crash Dive in 1997. By this time, he became the top favorite of many TV channels as a potential host of their next shows. While others tried their level best to tap him, Chris has finally decided in the favor of 20th Century Fox Television and agreed to create, produce and star in their sitcom.
Titus is the name of record shattering sitcom in which Chris donned multiple hats of a star, co-creator and executive producer. Premiered in 2000 on Fox, this autobiographical sitcom gives the best flavor of Titus' brutal honesty and edgy tone that creates mass hysteria among people.
He provided some really funny punches in the show making it his most successful venture till date. The sitcom also proved a super hit with critics as well who were drooled over by his comic timing. With this, Chris has proved that screwed-up people can handle anything as he once jokingly said about himself.
Chris Titus is at the supreme of his career now. He is one of those few comedians that have always drawn mammoth crowd in their live shows. His performances are always well received. Having done standout acts at the 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2000 at Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, his most special tour till date The 5th Annual End of the World Tour has also increased his fan base with a premier on Comedy Central in 2007.
Among the current offerings of this amazingly funny man is a hilarious stage act called Love is Evol that deals with his divorce and abusive relationships among other things, again in a humorous way.
This 6 foot 2 inches tall handsome gentleman does not stand tall on his feet but also enjoys good run as a businessman. Christopher runs his own production company called Deranged Entertainment quite successfully. Besides this, he also work for humanitarian causes and run a non-profit organization by the name of The Insight Project that donates money to children raised in abusive homes.
Chris has made the whole world stick to his comedy shows just because of his quick wit and the ability to laugh at himself. Titus has the ability to joke about things most comics would find impossible to make funny. After years of experimentation with dark and personal storytelling, he has proved that comedy could be found in the most unusual of circumstances. His material is edgy and pushes the envelope, but still accessible and meaningful to the common audience.
Chris is today considered as one of the rarest comics of our times. He has been honored with several awards and titles including the Spokane Comedy Award in 1986 and nominations for Seattle comedy awards and Denver Comedy award. His film performances and frequent guest appearances on TV shows also give his fans a dose of his impeccable charm.
Popular among these are his stand-up television appearances in Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Comedy Central's Premium Blend, Hollywood outing with films like Crash Dive and Killer Clowns From Outer Space and acting assignment in hit TV plays like Beyond Belief, NBC's Jenny, UPN's Twilight Zone, CBS's Yes Dear and ABC's Lois & Clark.
