Cedric The Entertainer was born on 24^th April, 1964 in Jefferson City, Missouri. His father was a railroad worker and his mother a school teacher. He graduated from Haverhill High School in Massachusetts before going on to get a degree in Mass Communication from the Southeast Missouri University. Cedric worked in an insurance company and as a High School teacher initially but his knack of cracking jokes forced him to take up a career as a comedian.
 
Cedric The Entertainer as he is known now started getting some recognition when he won the Johnny Walker National Comedy Contest held in Chicago. That success enabled him to get regular spots for his acts at various places like nightclubs in St.Louis. More success came his way when he won another comedy competition in Chicago. Cedric's dream was to go even further and for that he went on a tour of different clubs across the United States where comedy was held.
 
All that hard work paid off in 1993 when he managed to land his debut television show as a host of Comicview a BET series. He continued to tour and on one such tour he ended up at a club in Dallas, Texas. He convinced the management of the club to give him a spot for only five minutes to do his act. That act was a huge success and when he found out that another rising comedian of that time Steve Harvey was a member of the audience the pair of them started a friendship that was to be very fruitful for them both.
 
The friendship started to pay dividends when Harper landed a show called The Steve Harvey Show in 1996 and he took Cedric The Entertainer to his show to act as his friend Cedric Jackie Robinson. His act was such a rage that it got Cedric three straight NAACP Image Awards for Best Supporting Actor on a Comedy Series. The duo then went on a tour in 1997 when they teamed up with D.L. Hughley and Bernie Mac. That tour was an enormous success, selling out huge venues and collecting over thirty seven million dollars in total over a two year span.
 
These successes didn't go unnoticed by Hollywood and he soon landed his first movie Comedy Ride in 1998. Comedy Ride was followed by a role in the super hit Big Momma's House which was released in 2001 and supporting role in Kingdom Dome. He even played background voice for the famous Dr.Doliitle 2 and also for The Proud Family.  His biggest hit was Barbershop in 2002 and that drove home the point he belonged in Hollywood. 2004 was got Cedric The Entertainer one big role after another in movies like Barbershop 2, Honeymooners and the Johnson Family Vacation.
 
Stand Up Comedy is one of the hardest things to do because there are no re-takes and no second chances.
