The Canon Logic is an alternative rock band from Brooklyn, New York that has gained fame of the past several years for its unique music and uplifting live performances. It consists of members guitarist Mark Alu, guitarist Josh Greenfield, bassist Sean Enright, drummer Zach Jordan and lead vocalist and songwriter Tim Kiely. Members of the band were attracted to the world of music at a young age and identify groups and artists like The Beatles, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, ELO, Air, The Who, Beach Boys, Oasis, Sigur Ros, Neil Young and Blur as influences. Indeed, many have praised the band by comparing their sound to that of The Beatles, a fact that makes many want to see them live with The Canon Logic tickets in hand.
The Canon Logic is a band that, aside from being influenced by many of the greatest artists and bands, also fond of many current artists and bands. They are fond of The Killers, The Strokes, Vampire Weekend, Albert Hammond, The Decemberists, Spoon, Of Montreal, Arcade Fire and New Pornographers amongst others. Originally from Philadelphia, they moved to Brooklyn where they began performing live. In 2010, they released their first studio album titled as FM Arcade which has been praised by many as being familiar to the music of Neil Young and Bob Dylan, particularly with reference to the storytelling style of the lyrics.
The Canon Logic's first studio album has been praised widely in the media. The Talk Blog on Converse praises it as filled with 'slick musical structures and beautiful clear vocals' whereas Tuneage goes on to commend the album as 'jam packed with harmony, melody and everything in between'. Even Mashable, the popular online social media magazine, was caught unguarded by the album's style and praised it as consisting of spectacular guitar hooks and vocal harmonies that mix in the new with the old. Consequence of Sound goes on to review one of the songs of the album, Nights at Armour Mansion, as 'beyond any rhythm' whereas Above the Fold praises the band's sound as 'large enough to fill an arena'.
This album came after the band gained fame in New York City after touring with bands like the Lemonheads, Oh Land and even performing headline concerts at the Bowery Ballroom. It isn't just that The Canon Logic's first album has gained rave reviews in the media; it has also been heavily used in the media. It is part of CSI:NY, Hollister Co. commercials, I Just Want My Pants Back on MTV and many ad campaigns. In 2011, after the release of their 2010 hit, they were signed onto Engine Room Recordings, a record label in New York City, through which they worked on the EP Rapid Empire. This EP was released and was filled with unrelenting energy and striking rhythms.
