Honda Battle of the Bands is an annual exhibition of marching bands within the United States. It is often referred to as HBOB or simply The Honda. The events include marching bands from different educational institutions. Since it is sponsored by American Honda Motor Company, the name "Honda" is used to refer to the event. Every year in Georgia's Georgia Dome, Invitation Showcase is arranged in January. The event takes place in the months of September and November during football game's regular season. Honda Battle of the Bands features marching bands from HBCUs, which are a number of institutes providing higher education within the United States. They were founded in 1964, specifically to serve the African-American community. The event was started as a means to recognize, support and celebrate the academic experience which is provided by HBCUs. Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase is held at the end of every Celebration Tour. Eight bands are chosen to advance further to the Honda Battle of the Bands IS. This special Invitational Showcase also includes several musical performances arranged by these best eight bands which are chosen by the jury and public votes. A total of around forty bands take part in the event each year. At first pre-qualifying events are held across the country, until eight bands are chosen for the competition in the IS. The event takes place at Georgia Dome and attracts more than 65,000 fans every year.
