A Love Story
An American in Paris is a heartrending love story of an expatriate Jerry Mulligan, who after the end of World War II settles in Paris and aspires to become a successful painter. Together with his friends Adam Cook and Henri Baurel, Jerry seeks a commercial breakthrough when he meets the haute monde Milo Roberts. The well-to-do woman gets increasingly attracted towards Jerry, but the latter finds himself head over heels in love with the secretive Lise Bouvier. Watch the twisted love triangles unfold as the characters discover their true emotions and the courage to face them. 21st Century Stage Adaptation
Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon makes his debut as a director with the classic 1951 movie adapted on stage for the first time on Broadway. Kudos to the talented Wheeldon, the play features spectacular ballet performances on musical scores arranged by Rob Fisher. With the book by two times Tony Award nominee Craig Lucas, Wheeldon and his team have showcased an outstanding post-world war love tale that is sure to rouse the viewers' emotions. Jon Weston's stirring sound designs along with the efforts of set designer Bob Crowley and lighting in-charge Natasha Katz, the show has been able to create an impressive impact. The musical features brilliant performances by some of the most professional stage performers including the ballet trained Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope, playing the lead roles of Jerry Mulligan and Lise Bouvier. Accompanied by stars Veanne Cox, Jill Paice, Brandon Uranowitz and Max Von Essen, the lead couple presents some of the most impressive ballet moves the crowd has ever witnessed.
The two hour thirty minutes show features some of the most delightful tracks that will make everyone tap their feet and snap their fingers before they realize it. The play showcases 16 musical numbers including the famous “I Got Rhythm” and “Fidgety Feet” and the melodious yet sentimental “Who Cares”. Music director Brad Haak and orchestrator Christopher Austin are lauded for their outstanding efforts to convert the show into a musical classic. The show was nominated in the 2015 Tony Awards for the Best Musical and the Best Orchestrations. In the same year the Drama Desk Awards nominated the play for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Orchestrations. The show was also a nominee for Outstanding Sound Design in a Musical in the same award ceremony.
