Abba was one of the most popular pop music groups ever to grace the music world. They have entertained generations and have become house hold names in many parts of the world. Abba originated from Sweden in 1972 and consisted of Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Frida), Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Faltskog (Anna). Interestingly enough, the band was created by two couples. Anni-Frid was married to Benny and Bjorn was married to Agnetha. Though later on, these couples separated, yet they produced some of the most remarkable and irresistible songs of all times. There are different versions of the creation of the Name Abba. Some state that it is an acronym formed from the first letters of each group member's first name: Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny and Anni-Frid (Frida). Others claim that it was actually orchestrated by Stig Anderson. Abba was the name of a well-known fishing can Co. in Sweden and since the fishing cans were unknown outside of Sweden, this enabled the group to familiarize the world with a unique attribute of Sweden.

Many of Abba fans also remember them for their colorful and trendsetting costumes during their live performances as well during recording sessions for their videos. People simply loved their themes and their musical propaganda that they proliferated into the masses. Their videos were also a scintillating success since their videos were able to capture their glamour and vigor to places where they could not tour and perform live. One of the other reasons why the band never really toured far-flung areas is that the children of Bjorn and Agnetha were really scared of flying and the group opted to stay and tour in areas that were driving distance away.

Abba has produced the following albums during their fascinating music career: Ring Ring 1973, Waterloo 1974, Abba 1975, Arrival 1976, The Album 1977, Voulez-Vous 1979, Super Trouper 1980, and The Visitors 1981. These are just some of their remarkable albums. They have created others as well. The band has also been recognized for their long and prosperous career and achievements to the music world. The group has been nominated for various music awards. They are the winner of the Eurovision song contest in 1974.

The initial success of Abba was due to manipulation and overdubbing of the female voices in multiple harmonies. This created a very unique sound effect that was loved by hundreds and thousands around the world. Fans immediately were captured by the scintillating beats and pressurized the group to start touring. Abba tickets started selling like hot cakes and people became "Abbanized". The group found a magnanimous fan club in Australia who was simply enthralled by the beats and lyrics of the band. Later on, the breakup of both marriages also played a predominant role in changing the lyrics and dimensions of their version of music. Interestingly enough, the music and lyrics of the group was used for the musical Mamma Mia which was an astonishing success and one of the greatest hit musicals ever to hit UK.

Sweden is extremely proud of their cultural heritage and brings to light the fact that one of the greatest pop bands of all times originated from Sweden. Very few pop rock bands in the early seventies were able to sell 370 million records worldwide. This makes them the second best-selling band in history and the second best-selling pop artist in history. They are also one of the few pop stars who have been able to have singles on the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Australian music charts. According to critics, the greatest achievement of the group might be when they are inducted into the Hall of Fame in on 15th March 2010.
