Patricia Lynn Trisha Yearwood is a three-time Grammy-winning American country music singer. One of the most popular female country singers of the '90s, Trisha Yearwood initially rose to fame as a prot?g?e of Garth Brooks but quickly staked out her own identity as an assertive yet vulnerable modern woman. She's in Love with the Boy (released 1991) was her first number one single.
Biography
She was born in Monticello, Georgia on September 19, 1964. Jack and Gwen Yearwood were her parents. Her musical talent was developed in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was a student at Belmont University.Christopher Latham was her first husband. Their marriage took place in 1987 but the two divorced in 1991. Yearwood married Robert Reynolds, the bass player for The Mavericks, on May 21, 1994. Their marriage could also not last for a long period and they divorced in 1999. Then Yearwood became engaged to fellow country superstar and longtime friend Garth Brooks on May 25, 2005. They were married in a private ceremony on December 10, 2005
On May 25, 2005, Yearwood became engaged to fellow country superstar and longtime friend Garth Brooks in front of 7,000 fans in Bakersfield, CA. It was Brooks' second marriage and Yearwood's third
The recording demos for songwriter Kent Blazy provided the opportunity of their first meeting to Brooks and Yearwood in October 1987. They immediately became friends. When a major tour was landed by Garth in 1991, he brought Trisha along to open all of his shows. They remained close friends even when they became two of the biggest country stars of the 1990s.
Yearwood served an internship with MTM Records and soon moved on to become an in-demand demo singer, which resulted in an up-and-coming Brooks hiring her as a backup vocalist. Yearwood appeared on Brooks' 1989 debut and its blockbuster follow-up, No Fences,.In 1990, She staged a showcase performance with the help of producer Garth Fundis. This outstanding performance landed her a record deal with MCA.
Yearwood's self-titled debut album was released in 1991, and the lead single, She's in Love With the Boy, rocketed to the top of the country charts. The popularity of the hit single made here an instant star. Like We Never Had a Broken Heart (co-written by Brooks), That's What I Like About You, and The Woman Before Me were three more singles from the record that all went Top Ten. Then Yearwood toured as Brooks' opening act, gaining immense exposure.
Yearwood also had the distinction of becoming the first female country singer ever to sell a million copies of her debut album -- and, a little bit later on, two million.
Her follow-up was the acclaimed Hearts in Armor, which appeared in 1992 during the aftermath of a divorce. Two of its singles, Wrong Side of Memphis and the Don Henley duet Walkaway Joe, reached the Top Five and the album also went platinum like its predecessors. Yearwood was established as an artist of creative ambition due this record.
Musically, Linda Ronstadt is cited as her biggest influence by Yearwood. Ronstadt's sound and vocal stylings are clearly apparent in Yearwood's music.Emmylou Harris, Patsy Cline, and Elvis Presley are Yearwood's other influences.
11 smash albums are produced by Yearwood. She has also provided harmony vocals for some of Nashville's most prominent stars, including Garth Brooks, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Emmylou Harris, John Mellencamp and Vince Gill.
Yearwood is also a songwriter. Her husband Brooks' alter ego, Chris Gaines, recorded the Yearwood-penned tune Main Street. But Yearwood has never recorded one of her own songs.
Yearwood took a four-year hiatus from touring and recording to take a break and enjoy her new relationship with Garth Brooks. She then released a new album, Jasper County on September 13, 2005. The album is a return to a more country sound than her last several CDs. The tone for the album was sent by the first single, Georgia Rain, with Yearwood altering the lyrics to pay homage to her home, singing about the Georgia rain on the Jasper County clay.
Yearwood had the honor of being inducted into the famed and historic Grand Ole Opry in 1999.It cemented her status as a true icon in country music.
