Tom Odell is a British artist, a singer and a songwriter who rose to fame internationally in 2012. An acoustic and folk music artist, his music has already been released by such labels as Columbia Records and In the Name Of Records. He released his first album, an EP titled as Songs from Another Love, in 2012 and is set to see the release of his first studio album in 2013. Songs from this new album are bound to be played live by the artist at any of his concerts, easily seen live via Tom Odell tickets.
Born in Chichester, West Sussex within the UK, Tom Odell spent some of his childhood in New Zealand and studied at the Seaford College. At a young age, he began studying how to play the piano in the classical style and began writing his own songs at the age of thirteen. By the time he was eighteen, he had decided on a career in music, and so decided to attend a Liverpool music college instead of going to study at the University of York as he had planned.
Unable to land a place in a music college, Tom Odell began performing in Brighton, gaining experience as a live musician and playing at open-mic events. He worked as a barman and also regularly visited London to play at some of its venues, eventually moving to the city to play in the group, Tom and the Tides. He then launched a career as a solo artist and was signed onto In the Name Of, an imprint of the larger Columbia Records after he was discovered by Lily Allen, head of the label, who saw a lot of David Bowie in him.
In 2012, he released an EP and then perform live on TV, on the Later.wih Jools Holland show, a performance the show's producer dubbed as a classic. In 2013, he was one of the fifteen artists for the BBC Sound of 2013 poll, with BBC also using his song, Another Love, in one of their commercials. He covered a Taylor Swift song for the BBC Radio 1 show, Live Lounge, and praised Taylor Swift's music as having incredible lyrics, stating that he would love to work with her. Taylor Swift responded by stating that she was a super fan of Tom Odell.
He went on to win the BRITs Critics Choice Award, an award that has been won by the likes of Florence and The Machine and Adele. He is set to release his debut in 2013 and is also slated to perform at the famous Hyde Park in London, supporting The Rolling Stones. He describes many iconic singers as having influenced him, including Elton John, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Arthur Russell, Leon Russell, Leonard Cohen, Billy Joel, Tom Waits, Randy Newman Bruce Springsteen, and Rodríguez. He is also fond of the music of Cat Power, Arcade Fire, Beach House, James Blake, Ben Folds and Radiohead.
His song, Another Love, ranked first on the Ultratop 50 Belgium charts, sixth on the MegaCharts in the Netherlands as well as charting on the UK Singles Chart, Germany Media Control Charts and Switzerland's Swiss Music Charts. The proud owner of an MTV Award nomination for the Brand New For 2013, the BBC Sound of 2013 nomination and BRIT Awards Critics' Choice Awards, he deserves to be seen live. Catch him live by booking Tom Odell tickets.
