The record was certified gold and kick started the group's journey to success in the music world.
The ensemble is known for its incredible blend of jazz, rock, country, gospel and R&B tunes. Despite several lineup changes, it has been ruling music arenas for the past four decades and refuses to slow down. Now you can watch the band perform live on stage. The original lineup of the Marshall Tucker Band included six members; the lead guitarist and vocalist Toy Caldwell, bassist Tommy Caldwell, vocalist Doug Gray, rhythm guitarist George McCorkle, drummer Paul Riddle and multi-instrumentalist Jerry Eubanks. Each member of the band contributed massively to its success, however, only Doug Gray still remains a part of the ensemble from this original lineup.
All off the tracks in their debut album were written by Toy Caldwell. After the album's release, the band began touring heavily and played more than three hundred shows per year.
The sophomore record by the band, "A New Life," came out in 1974 and went on to be certified gold as well. The same year, the Marshall Tucker Band also released the double-album, "Where We All Belong". It was a part studio, part live album and featured Southern rock fiddler, Charlie Daniels and blues guitarist, Elvin Bishop. This record was also certified gold.
The next year, the Marshall Tucker Band released another album. Titled "Searchin' for a Rainbow," it was certified gold and also produced the hit single, Fire on Mountain, which peaked at number thirty-eight on the Billboard charts. In 1976, the band released their fifth consecutive gold album, "Long Hard Rule." It earned the ensemble its first Grammy Award nomination.
The band's 1977 album, "Carolina Dreams," became its first platinum certified record and produced the track, Heard it in a Love Song, which peaked at number fourteen on the Billboard charts.
When the Marshall Tucker Band's tenth album was completed, tragedy struck the band. Tommy Caldwell suffered massive head trauma in an automobile accident and died six days later. Although the group gathered itself a while later and replaced Caldwell with former Toy Factory bassist, Franklin Wilkie, they were unable to recapture the success of the 1970s. The eighties and nineties saw the Marshall Tucker Band releasing several more records, which allowed the ensemble to keep their prominence in the music world. By the turn of the century, the ensemble was down to almost two hundred performances annually.
More recently, the Marshall Tucker Band reissued several of its albums from the seventies. Many of the band's songs have also been used in movies as well. The Florida Georgia Line song, Cruise, which reached number sixteen on the Billboard Hot 100, also mentioned the band's name.
The band's latest album "The Next Adventure," came out in 2007. Decades of rigorous touring and dedication to keeping their work original have earned the Marshall Tucker Band countless dedicated fans as well as critical acclaim across the world. Despite being classified as a Southern rock band, the Marshall Tucker Band has delved into several genres including jazz, country, blues and Rock & Roll.
