The era of nineties is considered the most memorable for the music industry as it produced some great bands. Among these is the indie rock band Pavement. Although the band didn't sustain for long but its fame helped to carve out a path of success for its musicians' solo career. Stephen Malkmus, the guitarist and lead singer for Pavement joined hands with his Californian friend, The Jicks and formed a band in 2000s. Today with the release of five studio albums, they have made space for their quality indie rock music in the industry and have a huge fan following that is spread across the borders. Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks are excited for their sixth release, 'Wig out at Jagbags' planned to release in 2014. Dates for its promotional tour have also been announced and Stephen Malkmus Jicks tickets are set for sale.
Stephen Malkmus developed his interest in music during teenage. He learnt guitar by playing along to his favorite recording Purple Haze and also with a number of Stockton based punk bands including Crisis Alert, The Straw Dogs and Bag O Bones. The artist throughout his time as a student stayed in touch with all musical events at the campus and interacted with people having the same interest. It was during the late eighties when Malkmus met Scott Kannberg and 'Pavement' was formed. Their first album, 'Slanted and Enchanted' was received well by the indie rock music lovers and since then they stayed in the limelight for subsequent releases. Even though their fame grew with time, it couldn't sustain for more than a decade. The members after the release of 'Terror Twilight' in the late nineties decided to disband. This was the time for them to shine with their individual talents. Within two years of the band split up, Malkmus joined hands with another band, The Jicks. He wrote songs that although echoed the Pavement influence but also had an array of new influences and had a different and cleaner sound to it.
Malkmus released a self titled debut album of his solo career in 2001. The album told innumerable stories including those of kids being abducted by pirates (The Hook), astronomers' adventures into space (Vague Space), an eighteen year old falling in love with a 32 year old man (Jenny and the Ess Dog) and many others. The album peaked at 49th position in the UK and on 124th in the US. The success was encouraging for Malkmus to put all his efforts in the second album, 'Piglib'. Released in 2003, it peaked at 97th position in the US and ranked at 63rd place on Hot Album Charts in the UK. One after the other, the artist launched a total of five studio albums so far. The latest one, 'Mirror Traffic' was released in 2011 and received positive critics reviews from around the world. Songs like All Over Gently, Fly Away and Share the Red kept him in the limelight since the time of launch to date. Before his popularity could fade away Stephen Malkmus announced the launch of his new album, 'Wig Out at Jagbags' along with the band Jicks. Songs like Lariat, Cinnamon and Lesbians and Chartjunk have already caught the attention of indie rock music lovers and they have their eyes on the album launch and the following series of concerts.
Stephen Malkmus is recognized in the music industry for writing two types of melodies that includes simpler, catchier 'pop songs' and also complicated 'guitar heavy jams'.
