Sabaton was formed in the year 1999 in Sweden. Another famous Swedish metal artist Peter Tagtgren opened the doors of his personal studio for the group to rehearse and play. The band started recording in Peter’s studio and soon afterwards a few recording labels started to contact them to join their rosters. Sabaton chose to sign for an Italian recording company and went to work on their debut album titled Fist for Fight. The artwork of the cover for that album was done by the iconic Ken Kelly. The album came out in the form of a CD for the masses in 2000 and was met with critical acclaim. The group then went to work on their second album titled Metalizer that was finished in 2002 but the label for one reason or the other didn’t release it. The group had generated quite a following for themselves in their native country so went on a road trip across Sweden where fans bought Sabaton tickets in droves. Two years went by and Metalizer was still nowhere close to being released so the band decided to work on their next album.
Sabaton had by that time ditched their previous label which paved the way for them to enter into negotiations with various labels before settling on Black Lodge. The first album they released under that agreement was titled Primo Victoria and it hit the music shelves on 4th March, 2005. Like most of their songs throughout the band’s career have been influenced by wars, this album also made a lot of references to the famous one that was fought in Vietnam. The album was met with a lot of critical acclaim which enabled Sabaton to get to work on their next creation. Attero Dominatus was the name of the next album that came out on 28th July, 2006. It continued with the wear based themes and was one again a critical success. The music of the album differed from conventional metal with low pitch sounds and vocals dominating the album.
Next year saw the much awaited Metalizer finally hit the music shelves everywhere in March. The album wasn’t released solely on it own rather was released as a special double-disc that was coupled with Fist for Fight and a new track titled Birds of War. The Art of War, their next album was inspired the Sun Tzu’s legendary book of the same name. Sabaton realized that apart from the advancement in weaponry, nothing had changed in terms of tactics and the war itself in the two thousand years since the book was written. That is what gave them the idea of basing the album on the book and the result was nothing short of sensational. The album received hugely positive acclaim from every corner and is regarded as Sabaton’s greatest creation till today. The work on the next album had to be put-off for a while due to the group’s hectic touring schedule that took them to various parts of the globe, selling out thousands of Sabaton tickets in the process. The album was titled Coat of Arms and it finally came out on 21st May, 2010 which was followed by another massive European road trip.
More albums and even more tours are in the pipeline for Sabaton. They have certainly come a long way since their humble beginnings in Sweden. Their unique music and themes have turned them into a global brand that is loved by millions in every corner of the world. So now that this remarkable group is headlining another tour make sure you grab your cheapSabaton tickets and be a part of one unforgettable metal party.
