The annual New Orleans Jazz Heritage Festival is all set to enthrall visitors once again this season. The highly popular Jazz Fest celebrates the diverse culture and music of Louisiana and New Orleans. It features various flavors of local music, cuisines, traditions and arts. The Jazz Fest has entertained millions of people for over four decades. The first festival was held in 1970. The festival is held at the famous racetrack Fair Grounds Race Course. Opened in 1852, the venue is America's second oldest horseracing track that is still active. Some of the most notable past acts include The Dave Mathews Band, Ellis Marsalis, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Steel Pulse, Ne Yo and the Eagles.
The festival is also famous for its rich cuisines and delicacies. Several local food vendors set up over seventy booths and stalls, offering the best of New Orleans' cuisine. The indigenous food items such as crawfish Monica, red beans, Oyster patties, fried green tomatoes, Cajun jambalaya, soft shell crab po' boy, alligator sausage po' boy, crawfish beignets and Mango Freeze are all offered during the festival. The food items are all prepared by hand and use local and fresh ingredients to keep the quality superior. The entire food chain goes through a strict screening test to ensure that the hygiene and quality of the food is not compromised. There are eight separate areas dedicated to food, including the Grandstand, the Folk Area, Heritage Square and Congo Square. For several years, the festival's menu has received much praise from the critics, including the New York Times.
Twelve music tents and stages are designed to host the live performances. These tents and stages vary in size and design, accommodating all the various genres played throughout the event. The Primary stage is the Acura Stage. Other stages include Cajun Cabin, Kid's Tent, Lagniappe Stage, Jazz & Heritage Stage, Gospel Tent, Blues Tent and Congo Square Tent. This year, America's celebrated star Billy Joel will be performing live at the music festival. A Songwriter's Hall of Fame inductee, Joel has sold over hundred and fifty million records worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has achieved tremendous success, winning six Grammy Awards amongst other prestigious honors. Apart from Joel, other artists expected to perform at the festival include Ana Popovic, Dianne Reeves, The Little Willies, Jill Scott, B.B. King, John Mayer, Maroon 5 and the Fleetwood Mac.
