Maroon 5 is a rock band from Los Angeles, California, with a soul-influenced feel to its music. The band has five members: Adam Levine (lead vocals, guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, backing vocals), James Valentine (guitar, backing vocals), Mickey Madden (bass guitar) and Matt Flynn (drums). The band's most well known hit is the single "This Love".

Maroon 5 has been awarded many awards for its first album "Songs About Jane". This was released in June 2002, and the album was a major chart success. It went gold, platinum, and triple platinum globally.

To support of Songs About Jane, Maroon 5 spent 2003 till 2005 touring in many regions where their songs had been heard and embraced. After this, they released a live album. This new album was called [Friday the 13th]. Ryan Dusick had to leave the band due to injuries caused by the non-stop touring. Matt Flynn replaced him.

Later, Maroon 5 released their second studio album, called It Won't Be Soon Before Long [May 2007]. This marked 5 years since they shot to stardom. The second set had reached #1 on the Billboard 200 within the first week of sales [almost half a million sold]. Maroon 5played in various shows throughout the summer of 2007tosupport their album. It is expected to tour North America in Fall 2007.Despite the success of this band, Maroon 5 has had its share of controversies because of misogynistic lyrics, explicit lyrics without a Parental Advisory label, explicitly sexual videos, etc.

History:
Kara's Flowers
4 of the band's members have been together since junior high school in Los Angeles. Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael linked up with Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick to form Kara's Flowers. This was a garage rock and grunge band.While the band was still high school it was given a contract with Reprise Records. Kara's Flowers released its only album The Fourth World [1997]. Regardless of the support it received in a few ways, the album never took off commercially.

Maroon 5 has played at the Live 8 in Philadelphia [2005]. The band included a cover of Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World". Frontman Levine played with Stevie Wonder for the closing act.

Controversy:
Maroon 5's song "Harder to Breathe" has portions that may be interpreted as misogynistic. In the lyrics, Levine sings about his lover being "condescending and unnecessarily critical" "I have a tendency of getting very physical/So watch your step, 'cause if I do you'll need a miracle." This implies that he will physically hit the woman he is addressing in the song. However, Levine says that the song was a response to the record company pressuring his band into writing more material.

Explicit content:
The music video of "This Love" shows the lead singer Adam Levine and his previous girlfriend [model Kelly McKee] in lengthy sex scenes. The video has apparently been deliberately created to reveal more, with however avoiding exposure of the couple's genitalia. Otherwise, the band would have come under FCC action.
 

Maroon 5 Ready for North American Tour
