Born on March 27, 1962, Jann Arden made her impression on the Pop music scene with her break through debut album, Time for Mercy, which was released back in 1993. Prior to that Arden used to perform at various local bars and pubs, and also used to busk occasionally. Arden graduated from Springbank Community High School, and during her early years as a teenager, she developed affection for the art of music. The seed of the love for the music was sown into her heart by her own mother, Joan Richards. While still as young as 12 years of age, Arden saw her mother meddle with the guitar strings as she hummed along with the songs that she wrote. As she saw her mother sing, Arden tried imitating her as well by grabbing her guitar and trying to ring some chords right, to make something out of them. Although her mom gave up after practicing for few month, as she recalls in her biography on her official website, but Arden found music calming and soothing for her soul, and found songwriting, as an outlet for all her deep feelings and emotions. Arden practiced her skills on her mother's guitar whenever the time allowed her to do so, and came through few basic chords initially, and mastered some of the hit singles by notable acts like Bette Midler, ABBA, The Carpenters and John Denver. As her passion grew more and more, Arden started pouring her feelings out in the form of the songs that she wrote as she meddled with the guitar, to make something out of it. This whole experience truly touched her soul and heart, and as expected, music became her passion and goal.
After being regarded as an underground act for several coming years, Arden finally made it into the mainstream music scene with her break through debut album entitled Time for Mercy, after she scored a record deal with A&M Records. Released in 1993, 'Time for Mercy' featured Arden on the acoustic guitar and vocals, and was produced by Ed Cherney. The album, on the whole, received positive reviews from the music critics across the globe, and featured some of the finest hit singles of her career so far, including "Will you Remember Me" and "I Would Die for you". The album gave Arden, the kind of exposure, she was aspiring for and not just that, she also received a Juno Award for the video of her song "I Would Die For You", which by the way, also received substantial amount of audio airplay of various radio channels and video airplay on notable music channels all across the globe.
Following the appreciation and admiration that she received for her first album, she once again returned to studio to record her second studio album titled 'Living Under June'. Featuring hit singles like 'Insensitive', 'Good Mother', and 'Could I Be Your Girl', her second album did fairly well as compared to the first one, and peaked at #1 spot on Heatseekers Albums Chart. 'Living Under June' is, by far, the best of all the albums that Arden has released, as it received certified 5x Platinum Status in Canada and Gold Status in United States, following its enormous amount of sales. The albums that she later released were "Happy?", "Blood Red Cherry", "Love is the Only Soldier", "Jann Arden", and "Uncover Me". Following the release of "Uncover Me" in 2007, Arden went on her nationwide tour of Canada named Uncover Me Tour that was followed by her USA Summer Tour with Michael Buble later that year.
Her most recent album, "Free", was released in September, 2009 that peaked at #9 spot on the Canadian Hot 100 Chart. The album featured another one of her chart topping hits titled, "A Million Miles Away". Following the release Arden announced that she will be embarking on a cross country tour that will hit various concert venues all across Canada. The Tour kicked off on November 17, 2009 and is scheduled to end on February 4, 2010.
