Billy Idol is a famous rock singer, songwriter and musician belonging to England. Idol gained mainstream success during the popular punk rock era, back when he was member of Bromley Contingent, Sex Pistols fan base. Idol's first step towards fame was as a member of the Generation X band, after which he decided to embark on a solo career and became a part of MTV's Second British Invasion within the United States. With videos of tracks like Eyes Without a Face, White Wedding and Rebel Yell, he became one of the first stars of MTV. Recently Idol has the schedule of his upcoming US Tour, for which Billy Idol tickets have now been made available.
Billy Idol's real name is William Michael Albert Broad; the stage name was inspired from one of his teachers. In an interview he told his fans that "Billy Idol" struck him as an old English school of rock name, hence he went for it. It might sound a little goofy to him now but he has stuck to it for good. After leaving college, he joined Siouxsie and the Banshee punk rock band, however in 1977 left it shortly to join Chelsea as their guitarist.
Together with the band mate Tony James, very soon Billy Idol left Chelsea and formed the famous Generation X, following the same genre they had been into for past few years. In the band, Idol switched from being the guitarist to the lead singer. The band quickly found fame and were the very first band of their genre to make it to Top of the Pops BBC TV program. Although the band as mainly punk rock, they were also deeply inspired by British pop of the mid 60s. Before disbanding, Generation X managed to release three studio albums and also appeared in a film in 1980 named D.O.A.
Billy Idol embarked on a solo artist career after moving to New York in 1981. He started working with the manager Bill Aucoin. From there Idol managed to establish his "bad boy" image which went on real well with the glam rock tunes of his new partner and excellent guitarist Steve Stevens. They worked with Steve Missal and Phil Feit and signed to Chrysalis Records. The EP named "Don't Stop" came out in the same year which also featured a song from Generation X named Dancing with Myself. Idol's very first self titled solo studio album hit the market in the July of 1982.
Billy Idol released his second EP by the name of 'Rebel Yell' in 1983, which was a major success. Several tracks from that album were included in Hollywood's film Big, starring Tom Hanks. The song Eyes Without a Face from the album managed to make it to Billboard Hot 100 list. In 1993, Idol released "Cyberpunk" which was an experimental album and was recorded at his personal home studio on a Macintosh computer. It took him almost a year to complete the recording of the album.
Billy Idol reunited with his partner Steve Stevens in 1998 once again. Together, the two made several appearances including in "The Wedding Singer." After a long break, in March of 2005, Billy Idol returned to the scene with his brand new album after more than a decade titled "Devil's Playground." Steve Stevens and Keith Foresay collaborated with him in the recording of it and it turned out to be a huge success. With that Idol started performing live and recording once again. Currently he has announced his upcoming US Tour which will also include his fellow singers and guitarists like Stevens. If you want to catch this legendry punk rock singer, you can book Billy Idol tickets.
