Formed in 2003, August Burns Red is a Manheim-based Christian metalcore band that is chiefly known for its odd-meter riffs and heavy breakdowns. Its current lineup comprises of bass guitarist/backing vocalist Dustin Davidson, lead vocalist Jake Luhrs, drummer/pianist Matt Greiner, rhythm guitarist Brent Rambler and lead guitarist JB Brubaker. They have cited the likes of Hopesfall, Misery Signals, and Between Me and the Buried as their influences. August Burns Red tickets are a popularly sought-after treat among metal fans that love their trademark riffs.
The band was formed in 2003 when its members were still in high school, and their initial practice sessions started at drummer Matt Greiner's egg house on his family's farmland. The boys performed several local shows in Lancaster, following which they recorded their debut EP with label CI Records, titled Looks Fragile After All in 2004. Their then vocalist Jon Hershey left them in the same year, and they soon brought in Josh McManness as lead singer. They then signed with Solid Records and released their debut full-length album, Thrill Seekers by November 2005. Two years later, the band was on its way to releasing second album Messengers that marked Luhr as their yet again new lead vocalist while the album served as a breakthrough for the band. As of May 2011, they have sold more than a hundred thousand copies.
August Burns Red has been touring rigorously alongside and they have often appeared at festivals. The 2009 Dubai Desert Rock Festival marked their first performance in the Middle East. They toured across New Zealand and Australia in 2010 as part of which they played on No Sleep Til Festival on which they appeared along with Gwar, Megadeth, Suicide Silence, Dropkick Murphys, Descendents, A Day to Remember, and Parkway Drive, among more. The same year they co-headlined the Alternative Press Tour. To date, August Burns Red has released six albums since 2005: Thrill Seeker, Constellations, Messengers, Sleddin' Hill, Leveler, and Rescue & Restore, alongside two EPs Looks Fragile After All and Lost Messengers: Outtakes. With the exception of Thrill Seeker, all their albums have frequented the Billboard charts with Messengers, Constellations and Leveler becoming chart-toppers on the US Christ charts, while the latter has also peaked on the US Hard Rock.
