The New York Spring Spectacular, as the name suggests, is a dazzling musical celebration inspired by the magic of New York spring. Featuring an interesting and hopeful narrative about three New Yorkers who change each other's life in wonderful, yet unforeseen ways; the play takes audiences on a whirlwind adventure across the city. Produced by Chase, the show is brought to theater audiences by an award winning lineup of stars and an innovative creative team.
The New York Spring Spectacular premiered at Radio City Music Hall in March 2015. It features the legendary Rockettes performing dynamic dance numbers, backed by state of the art technology and unique puppetry. The high-kicking dance troupe, the Rockettes, have been a fixture of Radio City Music Hall since 1932. They will lead the audiences on a tour across the city, dancing from one landmark to another with some classic hits and some show stopping numbers.
The narrative of the show features an angel in limbo, Jack, who is sent back to Earth on a mission. He has to convince tech billionaire, Jenna, against firing veteran city tour guide, Bernie. With a technologically innovative set as the backdrop, the audience is taken on a theatrical ride across famous landmarks. Some of the landmarks the stars visit include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, Times Square, New York Public Library and Grand Central Station. Amazing talking animatronics feature in the show, including the Statue of Liberty, Alice in Wonderland Statue and the lion statues outside the library.
The technological creativity does not end here. Audiences are handed out 3D glasses for a video sequence as well as wristbands emblazoned with the Chase logo that flashes in different colors. The tech gadgetry is likely to appeal to the younger members of the audience.
Warren Carlyle, the Tony and Drama Desk Award winning director, has directed and choreographed the spectacular show. His past credits include the smash hit musical "After Midnight," which won a Tony Award for "Best Choreography".
Other notable members of the creative team include Diane Paulus, who also has a Tony Award to her name and is the Artistic Director of the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T). Drama Desk Award winner and American playwright, Randy Weiner acts as the show's co-creative director along with Diana. Joshua Harmon, an up-and-coming playwright, assists on the creative team as the writer. The show is being produced by Weinstein Live Entertainment and Madison Square Garden Entertainment.
Another appealing factor about the show is its impressive cast lineup. Laura Benanti, the Tony Award winning actress and popular star from the current ABC series Nashville, performs in the lead female role as Jenna. Emmy Award winning choreographer and mainstay at "Dancing With The Stars", Derek Hough takes up the lead male role, acting as Jack the angel.
Whoopi Goldberg, the iconic New Yorker and co-host of ABC's The View will narrate and voice one of the key puppets in the show. The Alice in Wonderland statue is to be voiced by teen sensation Bella Thorne. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler voice the lion statues outside New York Public Library. Mia Michaels, from the show "So You Think You Can Dance," will choreograph the opening number on the show.
The new theatrical production has been getting loads of media attention and New York Spring Spectacular tickets have been selling out quite fast as a result. The show has already earned rave reviews on the NY Times, Variety Magazine and Hollywood Reporter.
The theatrical extravaganza lasts for around ninety minutes and has been deemed appropriate for audiences of all ages. New York Spring Spectacular tickets can be great for families whether they are native New Yorkers or tourists to the Big Apple. It is a promising event that theater audiences would not want to miss.
