The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company presents the powerfully moving incorporation of poetry and dance of Dorfman, which is penned by Ilse Weber. The entire company's work revolves around three female dancers. These dancers tell the story of Dorfman's family. The dance festival brings beauty, joy, discipline and artistry of contemporary and classical dance to New Jersey as well as audiences across the nation. With dramatic nuance, musical range and bold athleticism, the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company is ready to take the present crowd on an emotional and intellectual journey. Described as “ingenious” by The Star-Ledger and emotionally “resonant” by The New York Times, the eleven ethnic dancers of the company compose a truly talented and professional contemporary dance group. A company made completely of males, 10 Hairy Legs will present the choreography of James as well as works by a few of today's major dance performers. It celebrates the emotional and tremendous technical range of men dancers. The Star-Ledger called the debut of the company as one of the top 20 dance events of 2012. The Jersey Moves of this year ends with performances by Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, American Repertory Ballet, tap dancer Maurice Chestnut, Cleo Mack Dance Project, dance artist Claire Porter and dancer Timothy Kochka.
American Repertory Ballet is a contemporary and classical ballet company devoted to presenting ballets from the 19th and 20th century alongside the latest works by today's most talented choreographers. The dancers of the company are known for their powerful artistry and versatility. Formed in 1978, this professional company is now run by Douglas Martin as a leader. Martin is the former most significant dancer and has been with the company since 1993 as a teacher, ballet master and dancer. The rich history of the company includes recognized masterpieces by such distinguished American choreographers as Gerald Arpino, George Balanchine, Alvin Ailey, Twyla Tharp and Paul Taylor. It also includes cutting edge works by Val Caniparoli, Dominique Dumais, Amy Seiwert, Kirk Peterson, Harrison McEldowney, Melissa Barak and Susan Shields. The company has also been repeatedly awarded a Citation of Excellence.
