The play is set for a smashing World Premiere at the Panasonic Theatre at 651 Yonge Street in Toronto. It features music by Academy Award and Grammy Award winning musician, Gustavo Santaolalla of Babel and Brokeback Mountain fame. The musical is directed by Sergio Trujillo, known for his award winning work in Memphis and Jersey Boys. Julio Zurita is the musical's choreographer with Tony Award nominated writer John Weidman writing the musical's book. Arrabal follows the story of the main character, of the same name, which sees her take on the Buenos Aires underworld to find out who killed her father. It's all star creative team features a director known for choreographing the massively popular Jersey Boys. Sergio Trujillo, the director and co–choreographer of the musical, is of Colombian origin known for his work on the stage. He has won many awards and nominations, such as the Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Choreography for his work on the Jersey Boys.
Sergio Trujillo, a graduate of the University of Toronto, debuted on Broadway in 1989 as a performer in Jerome Robbins' Broadway. He then went on to appear in 1992's Guys and Dolls and 1999's Fosse. As a choreographer, he made his debut in 2005's All Shook Up and also choreographed Jersey Boys which debuted during the same year. He instantly rose to fame, that saw him working on several Broadway productions as well as Las Vegas, Chicago and US national touring companies. He also worked on West End musicals and the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls. He is also the choreographer of the popular The Addams Family musical.
Trujillo is joined by Gustavo Santaolalla, a world famous musician, film composer and producer. He won two Academy Awards, consecutively, for the Best Original Score in Brokeback Mountain and Babel. He has also won a record sixteen Grammy Awards, two BAFTA Awards, the BMI Icon award and one Golden Globe Award. One of the best composers out their, he is responsible for the dazzling music in this musical, a perfect match with the sensual tango dance.
