Playing its home games at the Cedar Park, Texas Stars earned the respect and support of the fans soon after its inaugural season as Texas Stars. The team has been based in Cedar Park, Texas since 2009; however it was originally formed in 1999. During the team’s inaugural season in Texas, Stars captured its very first Western Conference Championship. The championship win ultimately led to franchise’s very first Calder Cup appearance. With such an impressive inaugural season, Texas Stars boasted nothing but promising performance in future endeavors as well. The history of the franchise goes all the way back to 1999 when the team was originally formed as Louisville Panthers. Back then, the team played its home games at the Freedom Hall in Louisville until it became inactive back in 2001. A couple of seasons later, the team saw its resurrection in the form of Iowa Stars based in Des Moines in 2005. The team was purchased by Howard Baldwin and Bob Schlegel who renamed it to Iowa Stars. Iowa Stars played in affiliation with Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League. Following the 2007-08 season, Dallas Stars revoked its affiliation with Iowa Stars and announced that it will be awarding its affiliation to Texas Stars. At that time Texas Stars awaited the completion of Cedar Park. In the meantime, Iowa Stars struck an affiliation contract with Anaheim Ducks which was also dropped by the Ducks in 2009.

Following these events, Iowa Stars’ which was now called Iowa Chops was suspended by American Hockey League for some reasons. Later on May 4, 2010 American Hockey League made it official that the Iowa Chops was now acquired by Texas Stars, hence Texas Stars was formed.

AHL’s 2009-10 season marked the team’s inaugural season in which the team finished on the second spot in the West Division standings. The team defeated Rockford and Chicago in the first and second rounds of the playoffs to claim its very first Division Championships. In the Western Conference Finals, the team went up against Hamilton, and defeated it to claim its very first Robert W. Clarke Trophy. In the 2010 Calder Cup Finals, Stars fell to Hershey in its very first Calder Cup appearance.

Most recently, the team claimed its first Regular Season title by finishing first in the South Division standings and earning first spot in Western Conference. Following that, the team met Milwaukee in the conference quarterfinals and claimed its victory. In the conference semifinals, Stars went toe to toe with Oklahoma City and lost with the final score of 4-1. In first four seasons that the team has played so far, Texas Stars has made it to the Calder Cup playoffs on three occasions. The current Texas Stars season is also in its full motion and with its auspicious past records, the team is expected to do wonders this season as well.
