Recently the parent company of UFC, Zuffa, LLC purchased Strikeforce in March 2011. Dana White revealed that Strikeforce would work as an independent promotion under the leadership of Scott Coker. Zuffa, LLC also announced that the Strikeforce would continue to co-promote the events with M-1 Global.
 
Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts are applied to Strikeforce and are played at hexagonal cage unlike UFC’s octagonal cage. The Strikeforce championships matches are five five-minute rounds with a one-minute break each. Strikeforce did not allow elbows to the head of the grounded opponent before Zuffa took over. Same was applied to the women’s bouts as Strikeforce took the approval from Washington and California State Athletic Commissions. The judging criterion is such that three judges judge the rounds and the winner of each round receives ten points, thus making the event more thrilling and fair enough too.
