Ohio Machine was founded and included in the league as part of a plan to increase the number of teams in the league to sixteen by the end of 2020. It was founded when the league granted franchise rights to Charlotte, North Carolina and Columbus, Ohio for the 2012 season. It took on the name of the Chicago Machine, who played from 2006 to 2010, before moving to Rochester, New York and becoming the Rochester Rattlers and then moving to Toronto to become yet another franchise.

This was followed by a spectacular celebration at Amato's Woodfired Pizza, dubbed Part on the Patio, and located in Delaware where fans listened to live music, earned prizes and ate some of the best pizza in town. After the eat at Amato's Woodfired Pizza, fans then went on to the Selby Stadium where they listened to a concert featuring Kate Voegele, a singer and songwriter from Cleveland, as well as OSU Sports Medicine Night giveaways.
2012's first game was in itself a phenomenal experience, filled with suspense, energy and excitement.
