Ohio Machine is a spectacular American Major League Lacrosse team that was founded in 2011 and plays at the Selby Field, located in Delaware, Ohio. This pro lacrosse franchise’s official colors are black, blue and grey. John Algie is the team’s general manager with Ted Garber as the head coach. It began playing in 2012 season of Major League Lacrosse, as one of the two new teams in the league, with the Charlotte Hounds. Many have already bought Ohio Machine tickets for the team’s games, despite being hardly a year old.
Ohio Machine was founded and included in the league as part of a plan to increase the number of teams in the league to sixteen by the end of 2020. It was founded when the league granted franchise rights to Charlotte, North Carolina and Columbus, Ohio for the 2012 season. It took on the name of the Chicago Machine, who played from 2006 to 2010, before moving to Rochester, New York and becoming the Rochester Rattlers and then moving to Toronto to become yet another franchise.
In 2012, the Ohio Machine won their first game, as well as their first home game, against the Rochester Rattlers. They began 2012 with a phenomenal game at the Selby Stadium, to an audience over six thousand large. It earned its first win against the Rochester Rattlers, defeating them by 16–10, a game that was both exciting and historic for the franchise. This was followed by a spectacular celebration at Amato’s Woodfired Pizza, dubbed Part on the Patio, and located in Delaware where fans listened to live music, earned prizes and ate some of the best pizza in town. After the eat at Amato’s Woodfired Pizza, fans then went on to the Selby Stadium where they listened to a concert featuring Kate Voegele, a singer and songwriter from Cleveland, as well as OSU Sports Medicine Night giveaways.
2012’s first game was in itself a phenomenal experience, filled with suspense, energy and excitement. Though the franchise lagged behind at the start, it soon took on a lead after an attack by Andrew Combs, Jim Connolly and Connor Martin. By the halftime, the franchise had a 9–5 lead and the game was all but theirs. Following the beginning of the third quarter, goals scored by Roy Land and Kevin Leveille earned them an even bigger lead, resulting in what was a superb win. At the end, Woodson, who scored four goals, won the Bug Light Player of the Game award with Stefan Schroder, goalie, earning seventeen saves and winning the Major League Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week Award.
In all, 2012 was a smashing year for this new franchise, with its next years bound to be filled with excitement, wins and awards. Watch their games by booking Ohio Machine tickets.
