Huston Gems proved their talent in 2006 WNBA All-Star-Game in New York City. Team was composed of Sheryl Hoops, Tina Thompson, Michelle and Dawn Staley. Constant efforts of The Houston Comets can be traced back to the first form WNBA championships.

Team has been known for balanced swing as they carry unforgettable performances of Tina Thompson, Sheryl Swoopes, Michelle Snow Dominique. 2006 was the year that can always be recalled as the year of glory.
All managed in double digit scoring with 18.7, 15.5, 13.0 and 10.9 PPG. Great rebound ability was demonstrated by Rookie Mistie William.
Swooper finished third in the league. Excellent over all performance was given by Swooper when she scored 2.06 per game. For her outstanding performance she is renowned as the WNBA all second team and the all Defensive team.
WNBA?s 10th anniversary all decade team is also related to her along with the other stars including Dawn Stanley, Tina Thompson and Cynthia Cooper. With the stars on team, it turned the ball on an average of 15.7 times per game, the second top most mark in the league.
Overall record for goals was up to the mark. Below average free throw shooting was shown when they got away only with 8.9 rebound per game.

Loss of two people caused uncertainty in the off season. Dominique Canty signed as a free agent with the Chicago sky and Staley got retired at the same time when Canty had a break out session with an injury who will pull the strings back to court.
Reconstruction of the roster was stared by Comet by the addition 6?5 center Yelena Leunkenka in the recent Charlotte dispersal draft. Very strong both defensively and offensively, she could actually help Houston with its interior game.

There have been major changes in the team but Comets are not prepared to call the year a rebuilding one. There will be many new comers. Younger players will be helped to improve their skills and confidence building will be done.
Going a step ahead from last year seems to be difficult; the Comets must start looking forward to compete with future to come. No doubt Comets proved the originality in WNBA.
