This professional wrestling event known as Hell in a Cell is an annual pay-per-view show created by the world famous entertainment company WWE, which is based in Connecticut. This particular event was first established in 2009. The event took place on October, replacing the event No Mercy, which previously held the October slot in the WWE’s pay-per-views event calendar. The main feature of this wrestling event is the caged based match of the same name. This cage based structure or “cell” consist of a large steel cage that covers the entire ring and surrounding ringside area. This large cage is roofed, thus preventing wrestlers from escaping. The match can only end by pinfall or submission, disqualifications do not apply to this match, hence wrestlers cannot be counted out nor are they restricted from using weapons such as chairs and tables that can be found under the ring. The concept for the Hell in a Cell match was created by Jim Cornette. The original structure weighed more than two tons and was 16ft in height, but now the WWE has brought in a bigger and amplifier version of this cell that is 20ft high and weigh in around 5 tons.
The Kiel Center was where the first Hell in a Cell match took place on the 5th of October, 1997 in Saint Louis, Missouri at pay-per-view event, Badd Blood: In Your House. The match was between The Undertaker and “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels, two of WWE’s most prolific wrestlers of all time. The match itself was a classic. Ever since the match’s introduction, the WWE has created many other new and innovative matches over the years, but Hell in a Cell match has managed to stand out and become a staple in the World Wrestling Entertainment.
