Bowl Championship Series, commonly referred to as BCS is a game that is held annually to determine the top two teams of NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and to provide them with a chance to compete in National Championship Game. These bowl-conference relationships blossomed in a way that today they have extended way beyond just five “BCS bowls”. Now there are many bowls teams other than the conference champion teams.

The “Bowl Coalition” was introduced in 1992. It was introduced to determine the competition of the top two teams in the bowl championship. Thus, several different conferences including the four bowl committees got together and formed Bowl Coalition. The Coalition agreement came to an end in January of 1995, and right after that “Bowl Alliance” was formed. It too was created for the same purpose of choosing a proper structure for bowl participations. After the end of Alliance, Big Ten and Pac-10 championships were included in the championship game.

During 1996, an agreement was made between Rose Bowl, Pac-10 and Big Ten that the bowl will arrange a rotating National Championship game against the other bowls. In the same way, Pac-10 and Big Ten champions will not participate in the tradition game held on New Year’s Day. All the three bowls that were a part of the Alliance agreed to the idea and thus was created “Bowl Championship Series”. For the very first time in the history of college football sports, the fans were promised an annual competition between the nation’s top two teams.

At first, the Bowl Championship Series rotated between Orange, Rose, Sugar and Fiesta Bowls. Since the start of 2006, BCS National Championship has been held as a totally separate event and is played at the site that is the host. Just as the 2007 season was arranged at the Louisiana Superdome New Orleans. The 2010 football season was played at University of Phoenix Stadium, and was held between Auburn Tigers and Oregon Ducks. The season had turned out to be the best for Oregon Ducks. But Auburn Tigers clean swept everyone that came in the way and won the game by 22 – 19.
