Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Located on the banks of Lake Erie in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, in United States, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is the world's first museum dedicated to the culture of rock and roll music.
If the audience is passionate about and is appreciative of popular music history, then Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is heaven for them!
The museum is famed for keeping a record of all the most dominant performing-artists, producers, and other people who have left an impact on the music industry in some major way, specifically in the area of rock and roll.
Part of the city's redeveloped North Coast Harbor now, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was laid on 20th April, 1983, and the search committee examined various cities which could be home to the venue.
Thus, Cleveland was chosen as it has a significant music history. The museum is easily situated in downtown Cleveland by Lake Erie, east of Cleveland Stadium and the Great Lakes Science Center. It opened on the 2nd of September in 1995; however, the ground breaking ceremony had been done earlier, in 1993.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, regardless of induction status, archives the entire history of rock and roll music. The entire inductees of the museum are honored in an exhibition inside the spiracle building of the museum.
The fascinating exhibits and memorabilia of great artists start from the lobbies of the museum. This I.M. Pei-designed glass building, overlooking Lake Erie, has seven levels, where the levels one to five, all feature many fixed and unfixed exhibits documenting the history of rock and roll.
However, the temporary/unfixed exhibits showcase items and materials that are borrowed from the artists only for a short period of time.
Whereas, the permanent/fixed exhibits include a complete history of audio-technology, a section filled with mannequins wearing the outfits of famous past and present performers, and an area which peaks into music scenes of various cities during different times of periods, including the 50s Memphis, Detroit, Liverpool and the 60s San Francisco, 70s Los Angeles, 70s and 80s New York City and London and the 90s Seattle.
The final and the last seventh-level is also an unfixed exhibit, featuring a specific band or artist for a particular time of duration. Artists such as Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, The Supremes, U2, The Who, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, The Clash and The Police have been exhibited here. The Hall of Fame is located on the third level, and it features a wall that contains signatures of all the various inductees.
The Hall of Fame, in an annual induction ceremony, inducts a few artists. The first group of inductees, inducted on the 23rd January in 1986, included artists such as James Brown,Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Sam Cooke, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and Little Richard.
Today, the facility qualifies those groups and performers for induction whose first records had been released 25-years back. Other than this, the nominees should also have a demonstrable impact and significance within the history of the genre of rock and roll.
There are four categories which are recognized, such as, Performers, Non-Performers, Early Influences, and Sidemen. However, the fans have no input or say regarding who is nominated or elected to the hall.
Each year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum accepts and entertains visitors from all U.S 50 states and 100 countries from all over the world.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museums special exhibits, concerts and talks about and by the musicians that have been idolized by many while growing up make the venue as a memorable experience.
