The roots of the band go back to 1967 when the present members Brian May (guitarist) and Roger Taylor (drummer) teamed up with singer Tim Staffell to form a group named “Smile.” Soon, Tim left to pursue a solo music career. That is when Freddie Mercury and John Deacon joined the remaining two “Smile” members. The band set off touring in 1973, the same year their debut album came out. After the release of their second album, the band toured the United States where they got the opportunity to open for “Mott the Hoople,” an English rock band. Initially, the music of Queen was influenced by hard rock, heavy metal and progressive rock. Along the way, they transitioned to conventional music tunes which were more radio friendly. Slowly and gradually, Queen added diversity to their music styles. The band has known to be greatly influenced by some British rock artists of that time such as Led Zeppelin, The Who, Slade, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Deep Purple and more.

The albums “Queen,” “Queen II,” “Sheer Heart Attack,” “Hot Space,” “The Works,” “A Kind of Magic,” “The Miracle,” “Innuendo” and “Made in Heaven” were certified gold by the RIAA.
