The program educates and trains participants from all walks of life. The beautiful training center is located in Southern New Hampshire in the Monadnock region. The Apple Hill set a ground basis philosophy when the program was established - a philosophy that accepts everyone for who they are at all levels, where everyone is free to express and all of their concerns are taken into account. The philosophy also caters to the aspect that every participant deserves equal amount of support and encouragement. This unique philosophy has played a pivotal role for the success of the program, especially in bringing together different generations. Both young and old are comfortable sharing their learning experiences with one another.
Playing for Peace program brings together musicians in small chamber ensembles. As a part of their training on the skill set of chamber music, the musicians are taught to listen, watch, adjust and be flexible during their four day residency. A public concert is followed by the end of the training sessions. The participating musicians are given a task to overcome their areas of divergence and misunderstanding. They do so by working with each other and learning a music piece together. The objective of the program is to bring them out of their comfort zones of the respective regions and communicate with one another through the language of music. This perseverance to achieve musical fineness leads to develop ambition, creativity and above all, confidence. These traits not only leave a positive impact on the program but on the society as a whole. As part of the Playing for Peace program, Apple Hill has collaborated with different institutions and music programs from all around the world including universities, schools, US embassies and youth orchestras in different countries such as Turkey, Jordan, Ireland and Cyprus. It also included domestic associations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Providence, Memphis, Boston, Dallas and the Baltimore/Washington DC metro area.
