Also known as MDD, My Darkest Days is an alternative rock, hard rock, post-grunge band from Canada. Hailing from the city of Norwood in the province of Ontario, the original band members of this rock outfit gradually moved out of Ontario. My Darkest Days now resides in Toronto and with a line-up boasting of great rock talent and energy. Associated with renowned acts like Three Days Grace, Zakk Wylde, Chad Kroeger, Ludacris and Jessie James the band made it presence felt with substantial progressive and edge cutting alternative and post grunge vibes. Fans and critics love My Darkest Days for this signature twist that holds it was above its contemporaries. My Darkest Days is composed of lead singer Matt Walst, lead guitarist Sal Costa, Bassist Brendan McMillan, Drummer Doug Oliver and keyboardist Reid Henry.
The story of My Darkest Days began in 2005 when lead vocalist Matt Walst under the wing of brother Brad Walst, bassist for Three Days Grace formed his very own band. Walst intended to play his kind of music rather than what his brother or other performers prevalent in the region were playing. His bandwagon meant devious yet alternative rock music players ready to fuse and experiment. The band became a joyride with pals Brendan McMillan joining him first on the bass guitars. Later more friends poured in; Doug Oliver became the drummer and Chris McMillan became the lead guitars. My Darkest Days had a sound lineup until Chris McMillan became the first band member to leave his set. Soon Paulo Neta. was replaced when Sal Costa came into the picture. This Toronto based singer/guitarist, was an excellent replacement for Paulo Neta as he was a live performance powerhouse. My Darkest Days was not ready to give up on them and hence the lineup became static.
Rock Search became My Darkest Days' gateway to stardom. This contest held by the 97.7 HTZ FM intended to scout the best music talent from Ontario and take it to mainstream. The song Every Lie I swept this challenge and as a reward the band was allowed to enjoy a share of mainstream publicity at a studio in Niagara. It was here the renowned rock artist Chad Kroeger heard the sound of the band and found it to be irresistibly fresh. My Darkest Days' music, was thoroughly impressive and bound to earn commercial success. Such substance was the band's ticket to Kroger's record label where they started work on their debut studio album. From here My Darkest Days took off and landed into mainstream with Porn Star Dancing. As the debut single release it had immense potential, hence Kroeger decided for a video presentation. The video of this song was recorded at the Hard Rock Las Vegas Vanity nightclub and featured Kroger and Zakk Wylde the famed Ozzy Osborne and Black Label Society guitarist. The song had great outreach, therefore another version featuring rapper Ludacris, giving it a hip hop edge. The song became a Gold selling release in Canada.
Before the band formally released an album, they were able to deliver some great soundtrack music or a Hollywood flick. The Saw 3D featured The World Belongs to Me by My Darkest Days on its OST. My Darkest Days' morale and energy boosted with the success of efforts prior to an album release; paving way for the released their debut EP in 2010. With sensational collaboration tracks like Set It on Fire featuring Orianthi and Come Undone featuring country pop singer Jessie James; this album earned great public and critical acclaim when by hardDriveXL tagged My Darkest Days as the Best New Band of 2010. Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and FMQB's Active Rock list saw the album climb all the way to number one. My Darkest Days released their sophomore studio effort called Sick and Twisted Affair, in 2012. Casual Sex the album's first single to be released went fairly well on Canadian rock radios.
My Darkest Days have been touring since they were formed promoting and supporting their released albums. The 2010 tour of the band with music acts such as Sick Puppies, Janus, and It's Alive was in support for the single Porn Star Dancing. Later that year they toured with the hard rocking trio Trapt, Skillet and Papa Roach earning huge following accredited to their infusive live side.
