A highly cherished Christian voice, Michael English has been spreading his magic throughout the world for over four decades now. The celebrated singer has released chart breaking singles and highly acclaimed gospel as well as pop music albums. The artist has won several accolades and honors for his work including Dove Awards. Born in 1962 in Kenansville, Michael initially joined his family's group, The Singing Samaritans, at the young age of ten. He continued to perform with the Singing Samaritans for eight years until 1980 when he became a part of the Singing Americans. After performing for two years with the Singing Americans, Michael then joined the Goodmans in 1982. Michael rejoined the Singing Americans after a short six-month stint with the regional group, The Gospel Couriers. During this time, Michael had his first big break with the song 'I Bowed On My Knees', which later became his signature song. He continued to build on this success and managed to garner favorable reviews for his last album with the Singing Americans, 'Black and White'. The album became one of the most popular albums by the Singing Americans and comprised the hit single 'Welcome To Heaven'.
In 1985, Michael became the new lead singer of the famous Gaither Vocal Band. Michael's popularity continued to spread throughout the country as the band's new vocalist. On the encouragement of Bill Gaither, Michael started to work on a solo career. After signing with Warner Alliance, Michael released his self-titled debut album in 1991 that was extremely well received by critics as well as fans. The album earned Michael two Dove Awards for 'New Artist of the Year' and 'Male Vocalist of the Year'. In 1994, Michael left the Gaither Vocal Band to work on his next solo venture. His next release 'Hope' was again a massive hit with audience as well as critics. The album won Michael four more Dove Awards including 'Male Vocalist of the Year' and 'Artist of the Year' award. However, his popularity took a hit when Michael became a part of a much publicized media scandal involving his affair with musician Marabeth Jordon.
After being dropped by Warner Alliance following the scandal, Michael abandoned gospel music for three years. In 1994, he signed with Curb Records and began working on pop music. He re-released his gospel tracks as pop music and received positive response from the fans. His duet 'Healing' with country superstar Wynonna Judd was featured in 1994 film 'Silent Fall' and introduced Michael to a new audience. In 1996, Michael made a comeback with his pop album 'Freedom'. The album comprised of the hit single 'Your Love Amazes Me' that climbed the Adult Contemporary chart at number ten position. He continued to release pop albums and after a three-year hiatus from gospel music, Michael once again played gospel music at the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion. His comeback to gospel and Christian music was well received by the fans and since then the artist has become a highly respected pop as well as gospel musician.
