Multi talent Italian show biz personality, Massimo Ranieri was born at Santa Lucia in Naples on May 3, 1951. Ranieri is not only known for his music, but also for his remarkable work as both film and stage actor.
Ranieri has been in the show business for past 30 years and has earned the repute of one of the most popular entertainers in Italy. He attained his public exposure in Italy after he won Canzonissima song festival twice, once in 1970 and once in 1972.
In 1971, Ranieri also represented Italy in Eurovision Song contest in which he sang L'amore ? un attimo, and finished at 5th position. It was the same song that he sang in Canzonissima song festival in 1970 and won the contest.
He sang the same song that bring him victory in Canzonissima song festival in 1972, which was Chi sar?, while representing Italy once again in Eurovision Song Contest in 1973 and finished with 13th position. Ranieri is also known for one of his greatest hits of all times, Perdere l'amore, with which he won Sanremo festival in 1988.
Ranieri made his acting debut in 1970, when he played the title role in Metello by Mauro Bolognini. Since then he starred in various hit movies and also became a frequent singer and master of ceremonies on the Italian TV.
Also in 1970, he starred in La sciantosa along with Anna Magnani. Rose rosse is probably is his most popular album, featuring some of his famous songs including Rose rosse and Quando l'amore diventa poesia.

After making his name Ranieri headed back to his hometown of Naples where he was warmly welcomed in the public square. Ranieri earned his share of fame after he won Canzonissima twice in 1970 and in 1972 with his songs 'L'Amore E Un Attimo' and 'Chi Sara'.

The song that became the reason of Ranieris victory in 1988s San Remo Festival, 'Perdere l'amore', went on to become his greatest hit of all times. Following his success as a musician, he was offered several roles in movies as well after he made his acting debut in 1970.
This debut role of his in the movie Metello, lead him to 'David di Donatello award' as he was nominated in the category of Special Award in Acting. His role in 'La Sciantosa, of Tonino was highly appreciated as well. He co-starred with Anna Magnani and the movie was directed by Alfredo Giannetti.
