Silbermond
German rock music came into its own in late 1960s. To-date its has spawned many innovative and influential bands spanning genres such as krautrock, New Wave, Heavy metal, punk, and industrial. Germany itself is a big enough market to spin out hefty profits.
As of the German branch of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry 2004 estimates, sales of records, CDs, music DVDs, and cassettes totaled $2.15 billion. Not all songs produced in Germany are in German, but German-language pop recordings are notably rising.
Driving the trend is the resurgence of Berlin as a cultural capital. Young entrepreneurs have taken abandoned factories and breweries and transformed them into rocking venues for music live shows nearly every night of the week. Notable contributions came from a band called Silbermond.
Silbermond is a German rock band from Bautzen, Saxony. Silbermonds band members originally met in 1998 when they took part in the music project Ten Sing. The bands line-up consists of Stefanie Klo?, Andreas Nowak and Johannes and Thomas Stolle.
Two years later, they decided to form their own group and began performing locally under the name Jast. The band changed their name to Silbermond in 2001, enlisting Stefanie Pony Klo? as lead vocalist, Thomas Ratte Stolle as guitarist, Johannes Hannes Stolle as bassist, and Andreas Nowi Nowak as drummer.
Simultaneously concentrating on songs in German language, Silbermond got a chance to perform as opening act for Jeanette Biedermann in 2004.
After singing a high-profile opening gig for singer Jeanette Biedermann, outsized expectations awaited the groups next music piece.
Afterwards Silbermond released their first single Machs Dir Selbst, followed-up by their debut LP album Verschwende deine Zeit. The album went quintuple platinum due to spawning three further hit singles including Top Five hit Symphonie.
Verschwende deine Zeit eventually certified double platinum in Germany and Austria, selling large number of copies. The band continued gaining momentum, and at the end of 2004, Silbermond went on tour.
In April 2005 the group came up with their first concert DVD Verschwende Deine Zeit - Live. Critically acclaimed DVD reached gold status.
On July 2, 2005, Silbermond entertained music lovers by performing on the Berlin stage of the international Live8 concert event. The group performed Zeit f?r Optimisten after Green Days set and before Chris De Burgh in the concert lineup and received a great applause.
Around this time, they began to record their upcominf album, Laut Gedacht. In April 2006, Silbermond came up with their sophomore effort, Laut Gedacht. Their second album debuted at number one on the German and Austrian album charts, earning them to mainstream popularity while growing fan-base.
Laut Gedacht launched the bands first number one single, Das Beste and spawned another top 10 hit Unendlich. The band released the albums second single, Meer Sein, though failed to enter the top 30. While, the albums third track Das Beste was released in October 2006.
The Premium/Maxi-CD includes five songs, as well as collaboration with the Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg under the direction of Scott Lawton.
On 7 July 2007, the band performed at the German leg of Live Earth in Hamburg and entertained millions of people. Silbermonds fans are awaiting their next album, Nichts Passiert. Their third album is due to release in 2009.
