Attracting over one million visitors to several hundred events annually, the Alliant Energy Centre includes a large Coliseum, Exhibition Hall, great agricultural exhibit buildings, the Arena and a new addition of a 29-acre Willow Island. The center is owned and run by Dane County.

The center is just minutes away from the State Capitol, State Street & the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. From the Dane County Regional Airport, it is only fifteen minutes away. Another factor that makes it a prime place is that it is situated near three key metro areas namely Minneapolis, MN (250 miles), Chicago, IL (145 miles) and Milwaukee, WI (75 miles).Located on the southern edge of Madison, WI, the property was constructed on the land that was purchased by the Agricultural Society and Dane County in 1895 primarily to be used for the Dane County Fair. However, the Fair didn?t come here until 1951 after the venue was provided with all the services and facilities like roads, parking spaces, water and sewer, kitchen, bathrooms etc.

The Center was then known as Dane County Exposition Center. During the next few years a number of buildings were added to the campus. In 1954 the Arena was the first building to be built followed by the Youth Building constructed in 1962 which now is used as the Administration building for the Center. Veterans Memorial Coliseum was built next after almost five years attracting big clients like the Zor Shrine Circus, Dane County Junior Fair, World Dairy Expo, The ABC National Bowling Tournament, and several big names from music industry of the time.

The Alliant Energy Centre campus as we see today developed when Exposition Center Commission was appointed in 1974 to head the construction of the Center. By 1977, demand for trade and consumer shows & conventions was neck to neck with entertainment events like concerts, family shows and sports. Recognizing all this, the Committee authorized expansion that resulted in a new facility called, Forum that featured trade shows, banquets etc. As the demand increased further, the Exhibition Hall was constructed on the site of the Forum in 1995 becoming Wisconsin?s largest convention facility. Within a short time, it started attracting national and international trade shows and conventions at a large scale.

Till then the campus was known as Dane County Expo Center, however, in 2000 Alliant Energy bought the naming rights and officially named it Alliant Energy Centre. In 2002, a beautiful indoor venue was also developed on a 29-acre area surrounded by 2 ponds known as Willow Island. It now offers a pleasant experience especially for concerts and other cultural events for visitors.
