Cinderella
Originally presented as a television extravaganza, Cinderella the Musical is an innovative and fresh adaptation of the classic, well-loved fairytale and Bristol Old Vic Theatre.

Cinderella, the musical, follows the format of the fairytale that has been refashioned and set to music by two great masters of the musical. Incorporating well-chosen modern touches, the musical also preserves the dream-like and timeliness quality of the story.

With a more human quality, the characters are given depth; it is the only Cinderella's innocent faith in a miracle that turns her dream to go to the ballroom into reality.

The performance begins in Cinderella's house where the herald announces in the city square and invites everyone for the Royal Ball being posted through the letterbox.

Among them are Joy and Portia, their Mother, and their stepsister Cinderella, who is laden with all the parcels they are taking home from a shopping expedition. This is met with great excitement by Kate Graham, Cinderella's stepmother as well as Portia and Joy.

Once home, they bully and order Cinderella about, and she does all the jobs uncomplainingly until at last they go up to bed. She then sits quietly in he favorite chair by the fire singing 'In my Own Little Corner', a simple yet effective song.

Seeing her overdressed stepmother and stepsisters off to the ball, Cinderella daydreams in her little corner. In the meantime her Godmother comes by and listens impatiently to her fantasies about a pumpkin coach and other trimmings that would take her to the ball.

When Cinderella's wishing power becomes irresistible, God mother gives in and the great magical transformation takes place. The King and Queen, in other scene, are shown arguing about the ball which she has ordered for the Prince's 21st birthday.

The King asks his son the Prince whether he gets an affirmative answer but he is not looking forward much to all the would-be-Princess in the hall.

The Prince is bored with a succession of girls which the footmen present to him and dance with. The radiant Cinderella arrives at 11:30, everyone stops dancing when she makes her entrance in the Ball.

The story then follows the traditional pattern with Cindy falling in love wit the prince, leaving at midnight without her slipper. Then we see the stepsister's lament, though naturally they do not recognize their stepsister.

The Prince declares his love for Cinderella, but their tender scene is interrupted by the clock chiming midnight. While escaping from the palace, Cinderella left her glass slipper as she goes.

In the next act, Cinderella is shown serving breakfast to her Step mother, Joy and Portia. Having heard their reports of the ball, she pretends to imagine what it might be like going there. On the contrary, the Prince is determined to find the owner of the slipper.

Despite his mother's warning that a girl the Prince only met for a few minutes may not be the one he should spend the rest of his life with. The Herald tries many feet in the city square, but Cinderella is not in her house at all. Her stepmother and stepsisters have each tried in vain to make the slippers fit them.

Cinderella is in the Palace garden and is found by the Prince, who is dejected at the lack of success in the quest. He throws the slipper away in the bushes where happily the Godmother catches it and replaces it on the bench next to the Prince.

It reminds the Prince that should try it on Cinderella who it fits well. The Show ends with a resplendent wedding with the message that 'Impossible things are Happening Everyday'.

Despite of the fact that the story largely remains the same, there are many successful additions within this. Cinderella's godmother character appears as a very glamorous figure in a tailored suit whose wand is substituted for a magical red umbrella.

Cinderella's two ugly sisters are shown comically grotesque and pitiful in their unattractiveness. As for the staging, it is extremely effective, using a revolving stage in order to show Cinderella's house and the palace back to back.

It is an awe-inspiring fusion of music and action with beautiful staging creates a magical feel, leaving you warm inside.

Watch exuberant performances that will take you to the highest level of ecstasy, making you feel like part of the musical. Costumes are modernized yet noticeable in the Royal ball gowns.

Grabbing the attention of everyone attending the party, Cinderella appears wearing a stunning traditional red dress. Come and buy your ticket to this perfect Christmas show that appeals to both children and adults alike!

The ages-old tale of Cinderella has lost none of its verve and charm. Its new theatrical adaptation has showcased wondrous performances amid brilliant choreography. Cinderella is adapted from the French fairytale Cendrillon, ou la Petite Pentoufle de Vair by Charles Perrault.

The orphan Cinderella has been taken into the care of her evil stepmother, who leaves no stone unturned in her efforts to make her life miserable. When an invitation to the royal ball arrives, the miserable oppressed girl is left behind at the expense of the gloating stepsisters, but a Fairy Godmother appears, providing her a ravishing dress and glass slippers. She arrives at the ball and amazingly ends up dancing with the star-struck Prince. In their merriment, Cinderella forgets the midnight time-limit given by the Fairy Godmother for the magic to wear off, and flees in haste, leaving a heartbroken Prince and one glass slipper behind.

Cinderella has music by composer par excellence Richard Rodgers, who is the first to win an Oscar, Tony, Emmy and Grammy. Eight-time Tony winner Oscar Hammerstein II provided lyrics and book. Robert Johanson directed Cinderella, which appeared in London in 1958 and on Broadway 3 years later.

Three film/TV versions (1957, 1965, and 1997) have also seen great success. The latest has an Emmy and Art Directors Guild Award. Cinderella's place in folklore has been cemented by great acting of stars like Eartha Kitt and Sally Howes.

The heartwarming musical touches the right chords and fans are queuing up for Cinderella tickets.
