Los Lobos
Los Lobos (The Wolves) is a well known an American rock band that emerged in the late 1970s. The band is heavily influenced by rock and roll, folk, R&B, blues, Tex-Mex, country music, and traditional Spanish and Mexican music.
History:
Los Lobos released an LP independently in the late 1970s, followed by an EP in 1983. Their first major-label, T-Bone Burnett, produced How Will the Wolf Survive? This was followed by By the Light of the Moon [1987]. Later that year, the band recorded a few covers of Ritchie Valens. These were for the soundtrack of a very well known film, La Bamba. This also included a track that would become their number one hit. In 1988, Los Lobos came out with another album, La Pistola y El Corazon, which featured original and traditional Mexican songs. Los Lobos toured a lot during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band returned with a new release in 1990, The Neighborhood, as released Kiko in 1992. Apart from these, there were many other tracks that were well known. For its twenty-year anniversary, Los Lobos released a two-CD collection called Just Another Band from East L.A.
In 1995, Los Lobos released a record for Little People Records. The band also continued to produce soundtracks for films, and even produced one for the well known film Desperado. In 1999, Los Lobos released This Time after signing agreement with Hollywood Records. October 23, 1999, marked a tragic night while Los Lobos was on tour. Cesar Rosas wife, Sandra Rosas, was found dead on November 22, 2000, after having been kidnapped. Gabriel Gomez, Sandra's half-brother was convicted of her kidnapping and murder. He received a life sentence without parole.Los Lobos moved on since then, and released their Good Morning Aztlan through Mammoth Records [2002]. They also released The Ride in 2004. That year, the band also released its first full-length live-show DVD Live at the Fillmore. Los Lobos 2006 release, The Town and the City, contains lyrics that deal with Louis Perez's childhood in East Los Angeles.
Los Lobos is recognized for its musical molds that have been created out of rockabilly, jazz, blues, Latin and also from their own Mexican-American heritage. This band is notable for not beating their fans over the head with politics or agendas. Los Lobos, however, subtly challenge them with releases that are conscience-raising and thought-provoking. An example of this is their release The Town and The City. This one is told in the first-person, and each song serves as an episodic step through a rough journey.
Los Lobos is said to have had an illustrious career since they made the band emerged in 1973. The band has developed into a respected artistic entity that has explored a variety of themes and topics. While the band gained considerable popularity during the 1980s, tit has never faded, and continues to make its presence known. This is considered to be an amazing point notable, particularly since the band members have suffered set backs in their personal lives.
